The allegations of historical misconduct in the WAIS Pole Vault program, as highlighted in recent media, are deeply concerning. We profoundly regret the harm and trauma experienced by affected athletes and are committed to addressing these matters with transparency and accountability, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all athletes. As we enter a new era at WAIS, with new leadership in place, we are focused on rebuilding trust and moving forward with integrity. We also ask for kindness and respect toward our current staff, who are navigating this confronting news while continuing to work every day to support, mentor, and train our athletes. At WAIS, we are more than an organisation - we are a community of athletes, families, staff, and supporters. Our community needs your support now more than ever as we address these issues, rebuild trust, and continue working to create a safer, stronger future. If you have anything to report on these matters, we encourage you to do so via our website.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 All too often, those of us who work in medical devices see our value in the products themselves, or (for those of us in QA/RA) the regulations we are successfully navigating to get and keep them on the market. 🏥💼 I don't think we spend enough time appreciating the stories of the lives that have been extended and improved as the result of these devices. 🌟 March 11th provided one of the most moving examples I can think of, when Paul Alexander passed away after over 70 years in an iron lung. Paul contracted polio in 1952 at the age of 6, at a time when every parent lived in fear of their child contracting this disease. At that time treatment of symptomatic patients often required the use of an external, negative pressure ventilator (aka "iron lung") while they regained the ability to breathe unassisted. In rare cases (such as Paul's), the patient never fully recovers this ability, and needs to spend most of their time for the rest of their lives confined in this device. Paul spent the next 70 years accomplishing some pretty impressive feats: ➡️ Earned his high school diploma, bachelor's, and J.D. degrees, attending classes in person once he learned to breathe on his own for short periods of time ➡️ Practiced law for 30 years ➡️ Published a memoir, which he wrote and typed out over eight years by using a pen attached to a straw ➡️ Made paintings in a similar manner ➡️ Became a TikTok star, with more than 330,000 followers at the time of his death The iron lung (regulated under 868.5935 External negative pressure ventilator, in case you are interested) has almost entirely been replaced with better devices at this point, and successful vaccination campaigns have all but wiped this terrible disease from the planet. But Paul's life shows how much of a difference it really made. 🌍 Working in medical devices can be stressful, with requirements for safety and performance at a much higher level than most other industries, but it's examples like this that should help remind us all why we do what we do. 💪
The inspiring journey of Paul Alexander, the Texas man who lived in an iron lung for over 70 years

It's been a dream of mine to change the way the financial services industry delivers information and advice to families like mine ever since my daughter experienced her traumatic brain injury and we couldn't find proper, holistic advice from those we asked. I'm more than excited that NAIFA asked me to present to fellow financial services professionals about the importance and mechanics around planning for a long-term dependent. Hope you can join us this Thursday! http://spr.ly/6046YfMKG NAIFA

Thank you Eric Cressey for sharing this article. We must not forget to address the all important accessory muscles (especially the small ones) when trying to restore proper biomechanical function. #ajrsportsscience #behindsportsmedpodcast #shoulderbiomechanics
Just now, I had a chat with Cressey Sports Performance - Florida manual therapist Dr. Ryan Hansen about a client we were co-managing. He had a previous clavicle fracture that was surgically managed 15 years ago, and one of the first things we noticed on his evaluation was poor clavicular movement on shoulder elevation. This isn't a commonly discussed topic in the sports medicine world, so I thought I'd reincarnate an old article of mine on the topic.
