Riyadh Metro to open in a few weeks The Riyadh Metro project is expected to commence its operations "within a few weeks", according to Saudi Arabia's Transport and Logistics Services Minister, Saleh Al-Jasser. The $23bn project was scheduled to open six years ago, in 2018, but construction activity on the project slowed in recent years due to disputes over prolongation and the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Arriyadh Development Authority, now the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), awarded the main construction packages for the scheme on 28 July 2013. In November 2022, MEED reported that the three contracting consortiums working on the Riyadh Metro scheme had struck deals with the RCRC regarding the completion of the works. Once completed, the Riyadh Metro will feature six lines, with a total of 84 stations. The project aims to relieve traffic congestion. Currently, 90% of trips within the Saudi capital rely on cars. The development was divided into five major design-and-build packages, with lines one and two as a combined package, and the other lines as single packages. Each package also includes the supply of rolling stock. Spanish firm FCC Construccion heads up the consortium known as Fast, while US firm Bechtel leads the BACS consortium. Italian firm Ansaldo STS is the leader of the Arriyadh New Mobility group. The Fast consortium won lines four, five and six, which are reported to be valued at $7.82bn. The BACS consortium picked up lines one and two for $9.45bn, while Arriyadh New Mobility secured line three for $5.21bn. #RiyadhMetro #SaudiArabia #PublicTransport #MetroOpening #UrbanMobility #TransportDevelopment #SaudiVision2030 #TrafficCongestion #WaheedHamdani #InfrastructureProject #ConstructionMilestone #RoyalCommissionForRiyadhCity #FCCConstruccion #Bechtel #AnsaldoSTS #MetroSystem #SmartCities #SustainableTransport

🚆 GCC Rail Projects: A Growing Opportunity for Export Companies 🚆 The Gulf region is experiencing a transformative wave of rail infrastructure development, presenting an excellent opportunity for export companies to engage as sub-suppliers. Here’s why: 🔹 Riyadh Metro & Expanding Rail Network: The Riyadh Metro, featuring 6 lines, 84 stations, and 176 km of track, is set to open by December 2024. Additionally, metro systems in Mecca and Dammam are also in the pipeline, enhancing urban mobility 🔹 Saudi Landbridge Project: Launching in 2024 with a budget of $7 billion, this initiative involves the construction and upgrade of over 1,000 km of railway, along with the development of seven logistics centers. It’s led by the Saudi China Landbridge Consortium, including major players like SAR and CCECC, while Italferr, Sener, and Hill International will manage the project under the National Industrial Development & Logistics Programme (NIDLP). 🔹 Oman-UAE Rail Connection: The Hafeet Rail project has secured $1.5 billion in funding to connect five major ports and industrial areas between Oman and the UAE, highlighting cross-border collaboration 🔹 Significant Rail Freight Impact: Saudi Railways moved over 13 million tonnes of goods in the first half of 2024, significantly reducing road traffic by eliminating an est. 1 million truck journeys 💡 The time to act is now! Export companies can seize the moment by localizing operations and establishing partnerships in these rapidly expanding markets. 👉 Export or Sales Manager? Kuwait and Saudi Arabia have approved a feasibility study to investigate building a rail link between Kuwait City and Riyadh. The study was approved during the sixth meeting of the Kuwait-Saudi Higher Steering Committee, Kuwait’s Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Noura Al-Meshaan told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on 30 May 2024. "The endorsement of the project reflects a shared desire by the two sisterly countries to build a sustainable and coherent future for the people of the Gulf region," she reportedly stated. Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser said the announcement was “an important step on the road to enhanced strategic cooperation between the two countries”. During the talks, the two sides agreed to sign an agreement on a railway project, but no further details were given. The 650 km long railway would start from Kuwait (Al-Shaddadiya area) and pass through the city of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, shortening travel time between the two countries to three hours. This railway would be in addition to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) rail link project, and would be expected to be completed in 2028. #saudiarabia #ksa #kuwait #gcc #highspeedrail #hsr #project #publictransport #freight #planning #mobility https://lnkd.in/d2aky_Kx

Saudi Arabia's infrastructure trillion-dollar megaprojects Transforming Saudi Arabia's infrastructure through trillion-dollar megaprojects marks a new era of innovation and sustainable development. Since 2016, the country has undertaken projects valued at over $1.25 trillion, including NEOM, Diriyah, and the Riyadh Metro, among others. These projects are not only substantial in value, but they also represent a commitment to innovation and sustainability. The list of projects is impressive, with NEOM alone valued at $500 billion, Diriyah at $62.2 billion, and New Murabba at $50 billion. The projects aim to build new cities and revitalize older ones, such as the Jeddah Economic City and the King Abdullah Economic City. The Red Sea Global project aims to develop an area of over 28,000 square kilometers, while the Riyadh Metro represents the largest public transport project in the world. These megaprojects are part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, a plan to transform the country's economy and society. By investing in infrastructure, the country aims to create jobs, diversify its economy, and provide new opportunities for its citizens. The scale of these projects is unprecedented, and they represent a significant step towards achieving the country's ambitious goals. #High-#speed #rail linking #Kuwait and #Riyadh to launch in 2026 A feasibility study for a proposed high-speed rail link between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia has been approved, with the project expected to launch in 2026. The joint Project Management Committee approved the outcomes of the financial, economic, technical, and social feasibility study for the rail project. Initial designs for the project are currently underway and will be launched soon, after which international consortiums will be invited to submit their proposals. The link will transport both passengers and freight in six daily round trips, covering 500 kilometres in an hour and 40 minutes. Tickets will be priced competitively in relation to plane and road travel between the countries. The Kuwait-Saudi high-speed rail link is separate from the Gulf connection project. It will start from #Shaddadiyah, at the western edge of Kuwait City, and terminate in Riyadh. Implementation of the project will begin in 2026, according to the official. The project will enhance #sustainable railway links, economic integration, and trade between the two countries. #transport #urbanplanning #publictransport #projectmanagement #technology #management #electricvehicles #transportation #alstom #Alstom #rail #rollingstock #railway #railroad #uae ⚠DISCLAIMER: "My posts represents my personal views/searches and they are not official statements or opinions of my current organization or any of its partners."

It is crucial to embrace forward-thinking policies akin to those in Dubai in order to cultivate the necessary environment for future growth. These new policies and regulations should encompass innovation, creativity, technology, sustainability, global integration, and collaboration. Such initiatives will not only spur job creation, but also draw in more investors and top talent, broaden revenue streams, facilitate knowledge transfer, enhance quality of life and productivity, and boost the Saudi GDP. These advancements are in line with #MBS Saudi Vision 2030. #Innovation #creativity #technology #future #saudi #riyadh #KSA #saudiarabia #Sustainability #SaudiVision2030
