When we founded Moov, we wanted to be a payments processor that would ‘delight end users.’ A little cheesy, I know. But that was our goal. Our first key questions to answer. Where could we find people who cared as much about the end consumer as we did and could reach them at scale? So we threw our value prop out into the world and discovered the incredible niche of Vertical SaaS providers. The entire point of Vertical SaaS providers is to make the lives of businesses easier so that they can provide the most seamless experience to their customers. They care an INSANE amount about the end user experience. We realized that if we could provide a developer-friendly payments platform, vertical SaaS providers would jump on it and make the lives of countless consumers infinitely easier. If you’re having trouble achieving your end goals, take a step back and think about whether you’re selling to the right person.

At one point in the past, Moov was incorrectly listed as a BaaS platform. To set the record straight, we don’t do BaaS. Legally we are a payment processor. Solution wise, we allow Vertical SaaS Platforms to integrate every US payments rail with one API. The problem we solve: Many vertical SaaS softwares, for example, the ones used to run gyms, healthcare companies, or service businesses, may track billions of dollars on payments being reconciled into their business management software via open banking integrations. Yet that payment revenue is going to other companies like Square, Stripe, BILL, etc… We make it simple for that platform to offer payments natively within their platform and monetize them. No payment expertise or infrastructure build is required.

As a 2X vertical saas + payments founder, I've gone through 4 stages in my payments journey: 1️⃣ Stage 1 - No Payments: I knew nothing about payments. We were 100% focused on building and growing our saas platform. 2️⃣ Stage 2 - External Payments: We had a few customers ask if we could "point" to an external page provided by their current payment service provider (PSP). We obliged. We had no relationship with those PSPs. It turns out, we were serving as an onramp, driving net-new payment volume, and not sharing in the revenue. They didn't even send a Christmas card. 😜 3️⃣ Stage 3 - Integrated Payments: We learned from a potential acquirer that there is a thing called "revenue share" in the payments world. 😎 Unfortunately, our integration strategy provided a less-than-stellar customer experience. Our customers had to log in to multiple systems. They were confused on when to come to us for support vs. our PSP. We wasted countless engineering cycles. 4️⃣ Stage 4 - Embedded Payments (+ banking in the future): With my new company duesy, our customers can manage all things saas + payments from duesy (1 login). Customers can be live in minutes. The engineering team is spending less time trying to duct tape things together. Oh, and our customers can easily reconcile to the penny.
