Genghiz Khan came around and razed the country to the ground. Over time, charismatic Islamic leaders, supported by scholars, rebuilt many huge empires from their capitals here centered around culture and knowledge. Look at how knowledge has built Uzbekistan into the sort of economy we can envy. Cost of living and food is cheap, and elders get pensions. Their politics and other matters aside, with a mixture of Malaysian dynamism and rich cultural heritage - plus our pivotal position in maritime logistics that annex the sea to the continent - we can make our economy a rich and cultural one steeped in modern knowhow too The Economist magazine called it it's Country Of The Year in 2019 for being the most improved economy. Read last year's World Bank report on how Uzbekistan is becoming an upper middle class nation by 2030 driven by its Energy, Railway, Chemicals and Agricultural sectors here - (link in comments below)

How will the former Thai Minister of Environment H.E. Varawut Silpa-Archa 🌏 will now run the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security 🙆 ? Can he bring nature into development❓ His speech on the impact of climate change 🌡️ on vulnerable people at Chulalongkorn University - International Migrants Day Conference make me hopeful Check the recordings here: https://lnkd.in/dk6CV4wk From my side, some points I presented: 🔸 Communities do not split between climate change and environmental degradation. They adapt to what is happening. 🔸 However, distinguishing between Climate change and Environmental degradation is key to define duties and responsibilities. 🔸 Migrants do not have full options. They may migrate but end up in a even more vulnerable situation, for example to a newly built urban area with higher flood risk. 🔸 Some of the people that stay, especially Indigenous people, can be stewards of restoration and adaptation. Many thanks to Chulalongkorn University Institute of Asian Study for having me

🌎 Happy World Tourism Day 2024 from Oman, the Land of Peace 🇴🇲 “Is Oman safe?” With all my heart, I can confidently say: Yessss. Oman is more than just safe - it’s a place of peace, diplomacy, and warmth. In a world full of conflict and division, Oman stands as a beacon of what we all should strive to protect and never take for granted. With over 100 active conflicts worldwide affecting more than 1.5 billion people, the human impact is overwhelming, for Lives, economies, and cultures. But tourism has this incredible ability to connect us, no matter where we’re from. When we travel, we don’t just visit new places - we break down barriers, we laugh and learn, we build bridges and make new friends. We create a sense of global unity, respect, and mutual understanding. Let’s continue to be a role model in the world. Let’s use the power of tourism to make the world a more peaceful place. #WorldTourismDay2024 #TourismAndPeace #Oman #GlobalUnity #PeaceThroughTourism

It was a true honor to present the Pakistan Travel Mart (PTM) 2025 — a platform that embodies the essence of tourism diplomacy as a vital tool for connecting people, cultures, and communities. Tourism is more than just travel; it is a soft power relationship that fosters mutual understanding, promotes peace, and drives socio-economic growth. Our recent meeting, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brought together key stakeholders, including ambassadors, high commissions, consuls, and honorable council members. This gathering reflected the growing recognition of tourism as a dynamic ecosystem that strengthens cultural ties and advances shared prosperity. Through PTM 2025, we aim to unlock the potential of African tourism and position it as a key player on the global map. By bridging cultures and empowering communities, we continue our journey of branding destinations as global icons for tourism, trade, and investment. This milestone reaffirms our commitment to creating a platform where nations can engage, explore opportunities, and foster deeper connections. Tourism diplomacy is not just a concept — it is a catalyst for global development. Together, we are shaping the future of tourism. #TourismDiplomacy #PTM2025 #GlobalTourism #PeopleToPeople #SoftPower #SustainableTourism #BrandingDestinations #EmpoweringCommunities https://lnkd.in/dAd-h7B5

"Well-managed migration and migrants’ agency and contributions can be harnessed to accelerate sustainable development, and to chart a course towards resilient prosperity in SIDS. By embracing policies that facilitate safe, orderly, and regular migration, SIDS can unlock the potential of human mobility to drive sustainable development." That is our overall message at the 4th Conference on Small Islands Developing States (#SIDS) underway today in Antigua and Barbuda (27-30 May).

Morocco’s Atlantic coast is not just a geographical marker but a significant geostrategic axis pivotal for both the Kingdom and the entire African continent. Its strategic location at the crossroads of key maritime routes connecting Europe, Africa, and the Americas positions it as a central hub in global trade dynamics. Recognizing this, Morocco has launched comprehensive policies aimed at reinforcing its status as a regional economic and logistics hub, transforming its ports into international trade and logistics powerhouses. #morocco #BlueEconomy #bluetransformation #atlanticocean
