Looking back on our 20+ years in software engineering, one thing's for sure... It's a maze out there. The market isn’t lacking talent, rather, many teams are struggling with a huge problem that countless other industries have solved already - a lack of understanding. Metrics claim to help, but often they just muddy the waters, and never give you the full picture. They may explain what’s on the surface, but they can’t give you information about why something is happening. If you want to learn how we solved this, and better navigate the complexity of software engineering, check out the full blog post below https://lnkd.in/ekHs2FKC #SoftwareEngineering #DataInsights #VisibilityTools

This is a great session about code review best practices. Tine is a great speaker and keeps the material interesting and engaging. I highly recommend sharing this video with your developer teams. Edit: Any developer can profit from this content, not just BC devs. I saw lots of positive feedback from my non-BC folks.
I just spent the whole weekend thinking about BC TechDays and what an awesome edition this was! 🌟 Techdays in 2022 was the very first event I attended in the BC world, and it opened my eyes to the community behind the product. Yes, it’s an awesome event because we can learn about the new technologies from the best, but just meeting all the faces from the community for the first time, which I only saw on X or LinkedIn before is what made this year so special. The content this year was amazing! But then again, I am a bit biased, because this year, I got a chance to contribute to it. 😜 I think my session turned out great, I’m very invested in the topic, and standing on that huge stage, and sharing it with the audience felt thrilling. The feedback I received after the session made all the hours and days spent on preparation worth it. In case you missed it, because you couldn’t make it to the event, or because I also had to compete with some amazing sessions in the same time slot, you can already find a recording on YouTube 📹 . This year the organizers were super fast with uploading them, wild. Anyway, I really hope I can make the event again next year! :D https://lnkd.in/djhg2XNM

I’m thrilled to share another insightful talk by my favorite software philosopher and historian, Kevlin Henney! 🌟 Watch it here: https://lnkd.in/e2mbXHcx Key Takeaways: * A deeper dive into how Conway’s Law influences our software and how to execute a Conway maneuver (not an “inverse” one). * The impact of organizational and developmental history on system design. * Techniques for objectively exploring various code structures, layouts, and dependencies.

A couple days ago I ran across Kellan Elliott-McCrea's Software and its Discontents, 3-part long form article on patterns and trends in the tech industry written in January 2023. I really appreciated the broad perspective, and it gave me a conceptual framework on which to hang some of my more fragmented thoughts on the topic. #TechIndustryTrends #SoftwareDevelopment
