🌟 Empowering Conversations: HR's Role in Disability Support🌟 Had an insightful chat recently with some close friends who shared their workplace experiences as disabled employees. Unfortunately, they've faced challenges with their line managers not fully grasping the importance of reasonable adjustments in the workplace. So, as we were meeting this weekend, we planned out effective ways to assertively communicate these needs to the business. Today, they reached out to share some fantastic news! Their company's HR department recently rolled out inclusive manager training, signalling a positive shift towards supporting disabled employees. The response from HR to my friend's meeting with their line manager was nothing short of brilliant. It's incredibly heartening to see HR genuinely backing up their commitment to support disabled employees, working collaboratively to ensure that everyone's needs are met. This experience has been a refreshing reminder that HR isn't just about protecting the interests of the business; they're also must champion inclusivity and support for employees. It's a testament to the progress being made in fostering inclusive workplaces. Let's keep celebrating these wins and pushing for more inclusive practices in every workplace! 🎉 What best practices can HR demonstrate to support disabled and neurodivergent employees? With 83% of disabilities being acquired during a person’s lifetime, it’s essential for employers to rethink their approach to supporting newly disabled employees. Research shows that less than half of employers offer adequate physical health support, and even fewer provide comprehensive mental, social, and financial assistance. Effective communication about available resources and making necessary workplace adjustments are key to retaining employees and creating an inclusive work environment. How can HR professionals take meaningful steps to break down barriers and create a truly inclusive workplace for people with disability? Despite 84 per cent of employers recognising the benefits of workplace adjustments, people with disability remain underrepresented in the workforce, with only 56 per cent employed compared to 82 per cent of those without disability. HR plays a critical role in bridging this gap by removing systemic barriers, fostering inclusive recruitment, and normalising workplace adjustments. Emma Henningsen, Chief Experience Officer at the Australian Disability Network, highlights practical strategies to drive change, including accessible policies, leader training, and creating a culture of psychological safety. Although workplace accommodations can play an important role in enabling employee success, almost three-quarters of those surveyed in workplaces across 20 countries had at least one request rejected, and about two in 10 had all of their requests rejected, most commonly due to employer concerns about cost. Ensure that your workplace is a safe space for all voices to be heard. #workculture #authenticleadership #inspiringentrepreneurs #peoplefirst "One of the clearest indicators that your organization might need enhanced disability, inclusion, and accessibility training is feedback from your staff. Are you actively seeking and open to feedback regarding inclusivity and accessibility? Encouraging open dialogues can unveil critical areas for improvement we might otherwise overlook."

Employers Network Recently I was selected to present my organization in an employers' networking event. The meeting brought together employers from different organizations and the key agenda was to highlight and learn from each other about how associate disability inclusion has impacted their workplaces What stood out was no employer wished to lose any of their employees who had a disability Iram Bahawal - Suleiman will agree with me on this🙂. They highly talked about how they had created cohesion and creativity among the other employees. If you didn't know a blend of people with disabilities in your workplace brings an exposure and a totally different lense on employee relations. How would you feel if you realize that your employer highly recommends you in your absence and confirms he cannot trade you for anything? #disabilityincusion #smartyourthoughts #everyonematters #employeerelations #employersnetwork
