With an established track record of recruiting apprentices, we are delighted to welcome our 2024 intake of twenty-five apprentices who have joined the business recently. Vp Group has recruited over 180 graduates over the past ten years, offering Level 2 and Level 3 Land Based Service Engineering qualifications and experience, working principally with Myerscough College in the North West. In 2025, we will be diversifying our apprentice offering to include skills in disciplines such as Human Resources and Information Technology. In addition, the Group also has three graduates joining its 2024 intake this month. In our diverse business, we are able to offer a wide range of interesting projects and we are proud of our track record of attracting talent to this sector. As a provider to many of the UK’s largest construction and infrastructure contractors, our work provides variety, technical and customer face to face interaction, and the chance to contribute to projects which make a difference to local communities. "Our apprentices and graduates provide an important pipeline of talent and we’re delighted to extend our scheme for 2025 to recruit apprentices in functional disciplines such as HR and IT. This week is all about recruitment. While I often find myself wondering why hiring practices can feel so outdated, it also gets me thinking about one of the biggest issues in our industry: the shortage of skilled tradespeople. I read recently that the CITB estimates the UK will need an additional 250,000 tradespeople by 2028—a staggering figure that underlines the urgency of building a sustainable workforce. I’m incredibly proud of our apprenticeship programme and thrilled to be expanding it next year. We’re taking a strategic approach by pairing apprentices with experienced technicians nearing retirement, ensuring that we retain and pass on valuable knowledge and skills. Another key focus for us in the coming year will be supporting Tradeswomen Into Maintenance to help diversify our workforce and better reflect the communities we serve. I’d love to hear what others in the sector are doing to address these challenges. How are you tackling the skills shortage? #SkillsShortage #Apprenticeships #SocialHousing #TradeswomenIntoMaintenance #BuildingTheFuture

While the construction industry grows and there are mega development projects in and around Kansas City, MO and vicinties. The projects are still lacking skilled trades people and journeymen. Our organization has been in the forefront of creating a pool of able candidates for the construction workforce. We still need more employers to come forward and join hands with trade programs like ours- so hiring will be immediate, and this situation of LOI before joining an apprenticeship program is solved. There are too many trades apprenticeships with able trained and pre-apprentices waiting for opportunities to join projects. Why do we not have enough journeymen in the Trades? Pre-apprenticeship candidates cannot wait too long ( they have mouths to feed too) while there is a lack of journeymen to help these trades get their apprentices to the jobs. Somewhere something is amiss. What is the solution?

Missed Opportunities: The Importance of Passing Down Apprenticeship Opportunities Yesterday, I attended the Building Growth Skills Network for Norfolk and Suffolk Provider group meeting, where we had an insightful discussion about the challenges facing construction apprenticeships. The supply side looks promising—providers mentioned having an abundance of eager young talent ready to step into the industry. However, the real challenge now lies on the demand side. We desperately need more employers to engage in formal recruitment practices. Simply put, we need them to advertise their vacancies! No more hidden job markets or hiring based on who you know. Just post the roles, and we can help you find the best candidate. Our CITB Advisors are here to support you—check out the local support available on the CITB website. https://lnkd.in/eYqbCuM2 During the meeting, an interesting point was raised: once apprentices complete their training and leave, we often never hear from them again. Yet, many of these individuals go on to become business owners themselves. This led me to reflect on a missed opportunity within the sector. As these young people exit their apprenticeships, we should be doing more to instill the responsibility they have to "pay it forward" by taking on apprentices themselves if they’re ever in a position to do so. This cultural shift won't yield immediate results, but by planting these seeds now, we create a future where more young people will have the same opportunities 10 to 15 years down the line. Let's not miss this chance to build a stronger, more sustainable future for construction. #BuildingGrowth #Apprenticeships #Construction #Careers #FE #CITB #PayItForward
