Capital Markets Associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP
I'm thrilled to share that for the next four months I will be a Legal Extern with Volunteers of Legal Service - VOLS Microenterprise Project!
Thanks to the generous support of my firm Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP I have the opportunity to advise NYC's small business owners on a wide range of transactional matters, including entity selection and formation, governance documents, drafting and evaluating contracts, compliance with employment law, protecting intellectual property, cybersecurity, and more to help them avoid crisis and thrive. This role will allow me to apply my legal skills to the #publicinterest sector and work with #probono colleagues to empower NYC's #entrepreneurs.
If you’re looking for a way to give back this holiday season, I encourage you to consider donating to VOLS. They do incredible work and create lasting impact in our communities. Your contribution can help further their mission to help New Yorkers access justice. www.volsprobono.org/give
I’m incredibly grateful to Davis Polk for making this experience possible and to VOLS for welcoming me into their impactful work. Looking forward to what the next few months bring!

The London Legal Walk (LLW) is almost upon us again. Next Tuesday will mark the walk's 20th year of bringing together the legal community to support free legal advice services on the front line - a big milestone and a brilliant cause!
I can remember the first time I participated in the LLW. I was in awe of the sight of thousands of lawyers who had joined together for this cause. The paths ahead and behind me were packed with suit/ trainer combos and a rainbow of firm branded t-shirts bobbing along. Some brought their dogs, others came as a team. Colleagues, ex-colleagues, opponents and new acquaintances all chatting along the route. For those willing to queue, a well deserved ice cream* could be acquired along the way. A fun way to 'get your steps in'.
More than that though, no matter which firm or chambers, size of organisation, area of law, level or route of qualification, it was warming to see the profession come out in force to support those who most need access to justice, but can least afford it.
My Keoghs colleagues and I shall be walking on Tuesday, and we would love it if you would lend your support to us - be that, by walking with us, by commenting with words of support below, by sharing this post to raise awareness to the cause, or by donating (anything at all) on our fundraising page - particularly as Davies will very generously match fund anything we raise!
(*other refreshments could also be found)
"As the cost of living rises, the need for free legal help with debt, benefits, housing, asylum and domestic violence is now greater than ever. So please come and join us at this year’s Walk on Tuesday 18th June.
What is it all for? We believe in access to justice. Increasingly, free legal advice agencies are struggling to meet the needs of some of the most vulnerable in our community. However, equality under the law is one of the central tenants of our society. That’s why, every year we bring together tens of thousands of professional to raise funds and awareness of this vital right. Thanks to you stepping up for justice at the London Legal Walk, we are able to support over 100 free legal advice charities each year, helping them provide more free specialist legal advice."

3. The Trust Bill reforms for charitable trusts;
4. A case involving a waiver for scholarships for women of professional association; and
5. A case involving an NDIS Provider receiving a $1.8M Civil Penalty.

This week is Pro-Bono week! But what does that mean? 🤔
Pro-bono refers to legal advice or representation that is free of charge, provided by legal professionals. Whether it's to individuals, charities, or community groups who are unable to afford to pay for legal help, cannot get legal aid or any other means of funding.
We're proud to offer Pro-Bono services, like our weekly drop in sessions and our free 30 minute consultations. 🧡

GOOD ADVICE UK is proud to announce that we will be taking part in the London Legal Walk 2024! For its 20th anniversary, we will be walking 10km on Tuesday 18th June to support some of the most vulnerable members of society access life changing free legal advice.
As we gear up for the London Legal Walk, we at GOOD ADVICE UK are beyond excited to lace up our shoes and hit the pavement for a cause close to our hearts. However, before we do, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on what this walk truly means to us.
For us, immigration law isn't just about paperwork and courtrooms; it's about people. At GOOD ADVICE UK, we are proud to be able to support people who come from different walks of life and from every corner of the world. We come across families hoping for a better future, individuals seeking refuge from persecution, and dreamers chasing their aspirations across borders. Each case we handle isn't just a file; it's a human story filled with courage, resilience, and the unwavering pursuit of a better life.
That's why events like the London Legal Walk are so important to us. They remind us that behind every legal challenge, there are individuals and families deserving of compassion, understanding and a fair chance at justice. The promotion of access to justice is not only a core principle of our firm, but is an essential aspect of our legal system which we strive to uphold.
This year, we will be participating in the London Legal Walk for the second time and with a bigger team. We are looking forward to be walking alongside our colleagues and advocates to achieve the common goal of improving access to justice for all.
So, as we step out, let's celebrate the richness of diversity that enriches our society and reaffirm our commitment to standing up for those who need it most.
We thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you on the walk!

My first LinkedIn post and it’s for a good cause!
This year, I'm lacing up my walking shoes (and praying for no blisters) to participate in the London Legal Walk with my amazing colleagues at Law Business Research.
Why am I doing this, you ask? Apart from the obvious allure of post-walk drinks, I'm raising money to support the much-needed legal aid services.
According to new research by the Law Society, millions living in England and Wales can't afford a lawyer and are left with no access to justice. Demand for free legal aid has skyrocketed, with over 3.6 million people seeking help each year.
With the funding cuts and cost of living crisis, these services need our support more than ever. Read more on the research here: https://lnkd.in/gy7RNfMW
So, if you'd like to help me hobble towards the finish line and make a difference, please consider donating. Every penny counts and will go towards making sure more people can access the legal help they need.
