Me, thriving in digital marketing, never a dream I thought I’d chase 😂 . In 2018, fresh out of university with a Finance degree, I was ready to dive into the finance world. While I enjoyed the field, I still do, if I was offered a job in the same field, I would gladly take it. Is it something that I badly want 🤔 , no, but building wealth yes. This reminds me of one of the toughest moments that came with an interview for an investment company in Westlands, Nairobi. The place was new to me, having schooled in Embu, owned a feature phone, so imagine with that you are getting to a new place, wueh! Some of the conditions was that one had to have NHIF, NSSF, imagine having to apply for those, without a shilling in your pocket 😤 . So you know, I have been parenting myself since I was 21 😀, like paying for my own hospital bills, I wasn't under my parents' cover anymore. I also had to buy new official clothes and how damn expensive they are in town. Not like right now, I know about Eastleigh, Gikomba... I faced a room full of eight panelists. The nerves, social anxiety, and my English even left the room when I entered 🤣 🤣 made it a challenging experience, and despite my best efforts, I didn’t land the job. One panelist even laughed during the interview 😂 , when I think about it right now, I can picture where she was seated, wearing a baby pink coat, curtilage glasses and a styled natural hair, close to the window, the details, I know! . I was disheartened and almost ready to give up. But in a final act of determination, I reached out to Airtel on their X (formerly Twitter) page, even though they had not advertised openings. They responded with their HR email, and I applied. The interview with Airtel was a stark contrast, just an HR rep and a line supervisor. That simple, genuine interaction led me to a rewarding career in digital media marketing, proving that sometimes the paths we end up on are far from the ones we initially envisioned. Top Employer Africa Awards 2024: A Glimpse of Remarkable Experience February 16th marked an extraordinary event in the African corporate world - the Top Employer Africa Award ceremony. The occasion witnessed the celebration of over 130 companies, all having excelled in one of the most important aspects of any organization - employee-centricity. It was an honor to be a part of such a grand event, to be immersed in a sea of individuals whose primary motivation is to build an environment where employees can flourish. It fills my heart with immense pride to work for an organization that holds this ethos close to its core values. My employer, JTI Leaf Zambia Limited, doesn't merely hold the title of a 'Top Employer'. It has gone beyond and has been recognized as the number 1 Top Employer in Zambia. This achievement is a testament to the commitment that JTI has towards its employees and their growth. Although the entire event was memorable, one particular segment stood out. It was the keynote address by Dr. Sooliman, the founder of the Gift of the Givers. This man, with his humble demeanor, managed to hold the rapt attention of a room filled with over 50,000 individuals. The wisdom he shared during his speech was inspiring and enlightening, to say the least. Dr. Sooliman's words struck a chord with me, particularly his emphasis on the significance of giving back without expecting anything in return. This noble thought resonated with me and made me realize how crucial it is to be selfless in our actions. Another important lesson I learned from his speech was the importance of active listening and the power of transforming words into action #topemployer2024.

If you are employed you may have clocked your 40th hours today of work! Meaning 8hours daily for 5 days! But do you think MO Dewji had 40 hours of productivity? What of Bakhressa!? Vodacom? CRDB? Do you think they closed 40 hours of productivity this week!? ………………………………………………………………… Imagine this scenario, Each bottle of water I produce I sell! Each bottle I make a profit of 1000 I am selling one bottle per hour working 8 hours I will produce and sell 8 bottles making 8000 by end of day Second scenario is MO with a factory The factory producing 1000 bottles per hour If only working for 8 hours MO is producing 8000 bottles and earning 8,000,000 In 40 hour week I am producing 40 bottles MO is producing 40,000 bottles Even if I choose to work 24 hours I will produce 24 bottles and make 24,000 I can never catch up to MO, Why? He uses a system, he uses a team of workers, each producing for him! That’s how companies function That’s how big businesses function If CRDB has 3729 workers assuming 8hours productivity each that is 29,832hours in a day Bahkressa about 2000 X 8hrs =16,000 Vodacom group has 13,687 X8hrs = 109,496 Now that is leverage! Remember The B quadrant by Robert Kiyosaki! If its you working by yourself you can never out compete a system! Unless you know how to and are building a team or system you will work yourself to death and only getting a nibble! But here is the good side, you can actually build one!!
