Vodacom’s purpose-led business approach requires us to find innovative and transformative initiatives to respond to the many socio-economic challenges inflicting our society today. As we reflect on the positive impact we have made over our 30 years of existence; we need to reflect on the positive impact we have been driving through the Connect for Change Trust. To date, the Trust has donated funds to the Lunch Box Fund to provide 127 135 meals to over 650 children, who come from underprivileged backgrounds. The Lunchbox Fund helps vulnerable and food-insecure children in South Africa to get the education they desperately need to build a life free of poverty. Inspired by its purpose to “Connect for a better future”, in 2021 Vodacom launched the Trust which is a fee donation platform in partnership with our customers to donate money towards three pillars namely Humanitarian/Welfare; quality digital education and health in support of underprivileged children. Crucially, we appeal to our customers to go to the VodaPay app and donate any amount of money to help those in need. #FurtherTogether #PurposeLed

This year has been a tough year on NGO's. We are seeing a huge increase in the need for services and a 40% decline in donor funding. Now there is talk of the suspension of LOTTO funding. Not that Matla A Bana has been particularly successful in obtaining funding from there, but other charities have and they will feel the impact. Many charities are fulfilling a need that the government cannot fulfil. What will be the impact of the closure of those charities? How can charities possibly survive in an economy that is not sympathetic to the need? What are the biggest challenges NGOs face today? With the need for services increasing so rapidly and NGOs simply not able to keep up, we do not see systemic change happening rapidly. Another challenge charities face is the fact that important role players – government, business and civil society – are not working not in sync with each other. And the biggest threat is the new trend of corporates in South Africa are setting up NGO’s in their own value chain rather than supporting charities in the field. Although there are some success stories, this approach is actually more self serving and the real need (300 000 registered charities who are doing impactful work) are still without funding. Of the more than R 10 billion spent on CSI, little of that is reaching the non-profit sector. In the past there has been great reliance on faith based organisations who s answered to the Biblical mandate of looking after the widows and the orphans and supporting NGO’s. This has also changed greatly with faith based organisations also now focussing inward. As we near the festive season, we at Matla A Bana know that many children will suffer rape and abuse during this time. We know that we cannot supply in the need for comfort packs, police support and creating child friendly environments as we should - not because we are not willing but because of the serious financial constraints making it impossible. We saw this same scenario in 2008 - but we managed to survive. We are also aware of many of our fellow warriors who are no longer able to deliver their services. Keep all of us in your prayers and we know that united we can make a difference. #MatlaABana #No2ChildRape #bethechange #childprotection

The Trust for Child Soldiers supports people in Northern Uganda, a deeply impoverished area still affected by the armed conflict which ended in 2006, in order to relieve poverty and mental distress and promote well-being. Working through volunteers at a micro-scale, usually through word of mouth and community connections, they respond to immediate need (healthcare, accidents or deaths in a family, unexpected legal costs) and support people looking to build businesses with seed funding. Julian Hopwood, Trustee for TCS, says: “Your donation will affect many young lives here. Education, even primary, is far from universal in Uganda, and our local cost of living crisis, which has seen food prices increase massively in the past year, has made it yet more difficult for poorer parents to afford to send their kids to school. Giveclarity's generosity will enable us to strategically assist children from marginalised families in various ways - both through school fees and related costs, but also by helping families to expand their livelihoods such that they can achieve a degree of stability, and, though maybe gradually, take on these costs themselves. By getting to know these families, and offering ongoing support as well as money, we try to maximise the chances of success. We are really very grateful indeed - given our scale of operations this is a huge boost.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/egTqpvzQ #socialenterprise #socialimpact #fundraising #donation #givingback

Every dollar donated will make a real difference in a child's life, allowing them to access a quality education and build a brighter future. Here's how you can help: Donate: Even a small amount can go a long way. Share this post: Spread the word and help us reach more people who can contribute. What if education knew no boundaries? Big Box makes this possible. It’s a small, purple device with the power to provide Wi-Fi for an entire school. This Christmas, your donation can connect up 1000 children to the internet, unlocking a lifetime of possibilities. 💬 As Fadhili Kyabira, Executive Director at CEAFPD, an organisation focused on providing access to fundamental human rights for the disadvantaged and to contribute to improving peacebuilding practices in response to current socio-economic and climate challenges in the DRC, says, “Without this support, these young people would remain in a cycle of poverty.” Together, we can break the cycle. Donate today to help deliver five Big Boxes to schools in Uganda. Every contribution, big or small, will be doubled and make twice the impact. 👉 Donate now and bring a world of information to children’s fingertips: https://lnkd.in/e6QN4pSw #ChristmasChallenge

🌟 The Amala Big Give Christmas Challenge is LIVE, and we couldn’t be more excited! 🎉 Our goal is ambitious: We aim to raise £10,000 in just 10 days – which will be matched to £20,000 if we reached our goal! That means every donation will be DOUBLED over the next week. This is an incredible opportunity to make twice the impact for refugees and displaced youth around the world. But here’s the thing – getting off to a strong start today can make or break the campaign. My personal goal is to see if we can reach at least 25% of Amala’s target on Day 1 🤞 Why should you give to Amala? At this time of year, we know the competition for donations and attention is fierce. But in my humble opinion, Amala is unique and donations go really, really far in making a difference. We don’t just provide education – we deliver a transformative experience for refugee youth and those affected by crisis. Education is the key that unlocks purpose, expands horizons, and turns hopes into reality. This year has been monumental for us: ✔️ Achieving accreditation with Council of International Schools and New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) after three years of hard work ✔️ Being featured in the Financial Times ✔️ Transforming the lives of over 1,000 refugee and conflict-affected youth But we’re getting ready for an even bigger 2025! With the launch of our 2024-2027 strategic plan earlier this year, we are getting ready for expansion, reaching more young people and using the power of education to transform even more lives. Here’s how you can help: ✅ Donate: Whether it’s £5 or £500, every gift is doubled. https://lnkd.in/eDT42DzB ✅ Share: Spread the word by sharing this post, talking to your friends and family, or posting on your socials. Together, we can transform lives. Together, we can expand hope. Will you join us? 🎁 Donate here: https://lnkd.in/eDT42DzB Big thanks to our amazing Head of Programmes in Kenya, Ajak Mayen Jok Ajok Jok, for lending your voice to our campaign video 💙 Let’s make this the best Big Give yet! #TheBigGive #ChristmasChallenge #MatchedGiving #TransformativeEducation #SupportRefugees #AmalaEducation

Did you know that recent research from End Child Poverty has found that 4.3 million children in the UK were in relative poverty in 2022/2023 - that's 30% of all children. These figures are reflected across the UK, with two-thirds of parliamentary constituencies having a child poverty rate of 25% or more. Whilst change needs to happen at a Governmental level, some of our charity partners, such as Miracles The Charity and Keeping Families Together are working hard to help as many as they can in the meantime. Supporting us means we can distribute vouchers to those charities that have the greatest need right now to help clothe children and their families. https://lnkd.in/dyC7xvZU
