If only this was a pier full of Software Developers in San Francisco lining up to speak to me about working in early stage startups..... 🤗 This is one of my favourite spots from my trip to San Francisco last September (if you hold your nose slightly and no, I am not saying that software developers look or smell like sealions!). I can see why there are so many startups launching in the city, it certainly feels like a hub of software activity. I am working with founders from really innovative startups who are looking to hire senior engineers, very often "founding" engineers with a chance to influence the tech and product early on. ✅Developer Tools - building out a new in-person team in SF, utilising AI to enable developer productivity through automating software maintenance ✅Developer Tools - building out the most awesome tool for dev focused software companies to ensure they have the best public facing documentation, easy to use, easy to manage ✅Changing the future of freight - automating backend tasks to enable freight companies to move faster Just a small selection of some of the roles we are working on, where you will play a crucial role in the team from an early stage and get to spend your days helping to build an in person culture. On offer, base salary levels up to $250k plus equity Drop me a message to find out more

Before you hire your dedicated software development team for a startup, make sure you don’t make the most often mistakes made by others: • Your vision about what kind of software developers you need needs to be clearer. Before searching for a dedicated development team, define your project requirements first. To do it, you will need more than just good language knowledge. You have to describe every phase of your project to avoid ending up with colossal time and money waste. • You need to figure out where to look for the right people. The most important thing while looking for software developers is to avoid trusting an inexperienced software company with a dedicated development team who may only have fundamental development knowledge. It may cause a significant financial loss for you. • You need to learn how to hire a dedicated development team for a startup. You have to find a trustworthy source for hiring to avoid trouble. If the hiring process goes in the wrong direction, it can be more time-consuming and increase the risk of missing requirements. To any founder or business owner who wants to work on a software idea. Unless it's an AI (bad idea), do research into talent cost and availability in your market first. And choose the cheapest and the most abundant talent pool software stack to use in development. Do it first because you will not be able to change things later. It's an unpopular opinion if you talk to most software engineers. They will always suggest you use the latest technology, the shiny object that is cool to work with. But as a business, it will be prohibitively expensive and sometimes impossible to find a good quality talent. I experienced that first hand. Even though we use the most used tech stack, we exhausted the local pool of engineers and had to start looking for people remote cities to fill the gap in our 5-8 engineers team, and we haven't event launched yet. Imagine once we grow beyond 50 people team. Then what? Either we will need to pay double to start pouching talent from big tech companies or try different countries. So. Do your research first! Don't fall victim to the shiny tech. You are working on something that needs to deliver value. And nobody cares if it's built using bricks or marble.

To hire dedicated software developers for a startup, you need an evident vision of recruits’ value to your startup. Be careful because a startup hiring not always can afford the work of software developers qualified for the job, whether outsourced or not. The most important question you must answer is – what kind of project will your dedicated software development team build? Remember that agile software development is not a one-person job. Mostly you will need a dedicated software development team, not just one very qualified person. There are different types of software developers: backend, front-end, middle-tier, full-stack, desktop, web, mobile, and so on. You need to know the stages of team development and clearly define your task’s job description, profile, and requirements beforehand. Software Engineers are NOT hired to write code. Software Engineers are hired to build software that will make a company MONEY. It’s that simple. If you ever forget that, check how much investment your startup received recently. Software Engineers are one of MANY parts of building a business - stop focusing so much on the code itself, consider the bigger picture.

Remember when someone went through a long con game to put a #backdoor into critical open source software? Then Eric S. Raymond, famed author of The Cathedral and the Bazaar, decided that he was going to do something about one of the problems that contributed to a bigger picture issue in #opensource #software development, which had been identified by the whole incident. And here he is only a short while later saying that it's almost ready. When #startups say they want to hire those 10x #engineers, I think most of them don't know what a 10x engineer actually looks like, nor how much one would actually cost to hire. The ones who know won't skimp on the #compensation. People like this single-handedly are able to move the world. Well, this particular guy may be a 100x engineer. Software engineers and #developers deserve so much #respect. Their efforts can create massive amounts of #leverage for a firm if they are given #resources and #freedom to actually do what they actually can do. And yet, so many firms that lack #digital dexterity fail to do so. https://lnkd.in/g37PfJDc ESR: https://lnkd.in/gR7QyixF

Did you know 22% of Berlin's TypeScript Engineers moved jobs in the past 12 months! Not many other industries outside of tech have attrition rates so high. Why is it developers look to move? ❌ They are not interested in the project/tech This is probably the most common reason why devs look to leave! Devs want to work with the latest tech stack and on exciting projects. 🏠 They want more flexibility For many senior engineers, they don't want to be dictated what to do and where to do their work. Perhaps they want to work remotely or have a hybrid schedule. They need flexibility and their company is not wiling to give them it. 💶 Salary upgrade 99% of people want a salary upgrade when they move roles. Why don't companies have 6-month salary reviews to combat people moving for money, the cost of replacing someone is much higher. 🤢 Sick of internal politics/ job stability This is usually the case in more start-ups but can be common in larger corps too. Major changes to the business can cause upset! People need stability. There are many reasons devs are looking to move, I think the most common reason I see is they want to be working with the latest tech in order to stay at the forefront of the industry. Devs let me know your thoughts below ⬇️ #techhiring #berlinsoftware #jobsatisfaction
