Friday Fact: did you know Leonardo da Vinci was credited with creating the first CV over 500 years ago? Although brilliant in creativity and tailoring it to the job with Sforza, I must admit I am grateful that I do not have to decipher handwritten CVs ✍ This is an opportunity to showcase the best of your abilities for the job you are applying to. 📈 Some tips: 1. Customise and tailor your CV for the job you are applying to. I have had candidates apply for several (different) roles with the same CV. 2. It is great to have an achievements section- it helps you stand out with your accomplishments. 3. Ensure your CV is in an easy-to-read format and starts with your most current employment (reverse chronological order). 4. There are rare occasions when a CV needs to be 20+ pages- mainly academia or research positions would require this or where a portfolio is required for creative roles. Ideally up to 3 pages max. 5. Check the job advert and language preferences. Apply in preffered language. 6. Check the level of seniority of the job. If you have 1 year of experience and apply for roles requiring 15+ years the chances are this is out of your league, spend time applying for roles where there are clear paths to senior-level positions and mentorship available. 7. Have a professional email address in your contact info. The one you set up as a teenager may no longer be acceptable 🤭 Remember, your CV is your first impression, skip the fluff and add value!
