The LNP has indicated a shift from reliance on external consultants and instead will upskill the public sector workforce if they win the Qld state election. If the LNP wins the Queensland election, they have signalled a shift away from reliance on consultants, focusing instead on upskilling the public sector workforce. “I want the public service to know that we are determined to end the days of farming everything out to the big four (consultants), we want to get traineeships again and do lots of them so young people can see a career path.” McCormack, Madura and O’Malley, Brendan. “LNP Leader says he ruled out mass public service redundancies 18 months ago". “The Courier Mail,22 Oct.2024. This raises the question: why haven’t public servants already been equipped with these skills; especially given the generous salaries many senior officials receive? Needless to say, and it follows that critics argue that inflated remuneration in the public sector should come with greater competency and expertise. Furthermore, the LNP's plan suggests a push for efficiency and self-reliance, highlighting a need for better internal capabilities to reduce outsourcing costs and improve accountability. Our sector support annual report shows how the LGA's wide-ranging support programmes are delivering high impact, low-cost programmes. 100% of chief executives say that LGA support has had a positive impact for their authority. Abi Brown OBE says: “Sector support has played and continues to play a vital role in supporting councils to respond to the toughest challenges facing local government, delivering highly-impactful programmes at low cost. “Our offer is informed by councils, for councils and directly addresses their needs – whether it be providing greater assurance, achieving transformation priorities, dealing with workforce challenges, changes of leadership or political transitions. “This report demonstrates what a council-led approach can achieve by drawing on skills from within local government. The Australia Government established Jobs and Skills Australia in 2022 to provide independent advice on current, emerging, and future workforce, skills, and training needs. Why then, is there no representation from the education and training sector on the Ministerial Advisory Board?

I agree with this study. Robust range of metrics and clear evidence from the ground. Kudos to SG's leadership. . I want something as robust and truthful about the welfare of our children under MOE pls. . https://lnkd.in/gmzMfBRx //The study drew on 82 data points, or metrics, from 17 different sources. The 82 metrics were spread out across the four domains: Strategy and leadership, public policy, national delivery, as well as people and processes. Each of these domains was made up of themes. For example, cross-government collaboration would be assessed under the strategy and leadership domain, while the use of data would fall under the public policy domain. Singapore’s excellence in border services and tax administration would help the country top the national delivery domain.//

Since CAEL’s founding 50 years ago, the organization has often supported public policies critical to the success of adult learners and workers. Today, CAEL has released its guiding priorities that reflect today’s increasingly complex systemic challenges and opportunities affecting education and employment outcomes CAEL called upon one of its greatest strengths – the diverse community of practice that comprises the CAEL membership community – to help formulate these priorities. Our guiding priorities are organized into three overarching goals: 1️⃣ Centering the Adult Learner 2️⃣ Enhancing Accessibility through Affordability 3️⃣ Unleashing the Power of Transformative Partnerships Each overarching goal corresponds to specific potential policy solutions, including many that are already being considered at the federal level and/or implemented in certain states. The Master Plumbers Association (MPA) of NSW is extremely disappointed with the recent cabinet reshuffle by the Albanese Government, which has excluded the federal portfolio of Skills and Training from the Cabinet. This decision comes at a critical time when Australia is grappling with a severe skills crisis due to inadequate apprentice training over the past three decades. The Albanese government has set an ambitious target for the building and construction industry: to build 1.2 million homes over the next 5 to 10 years. Achieving this target is contingent upon having a skilled workforce, yet excluding this crucial portfolio undermines the foundation needed to drive this agenda. “The omission of the Skills and Training portfolio from the cabinet is a significant oversight,” said MPA NSW CEO Nathaniel Smith. “It is imperative for the government to recognise the importance of addressing the skills shortage that threatens to derail its ambitious housing targets.” MPA NSW urges the Albanese government to restore Skills and Training as a Cabinet position and consider adopting other approaches to tackling the skills crisis. First, it should provide more significant incentives for employers to take on apprentices, ensuring a steady pipeline of skilled workers. Second, it should offer more substantial financial assistance to non-profit Peak Industry Body Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), enabling them to enhance their training capabilities and train a high volume of the next generation of tradies, as TAFE can’t do it alone. MPA NSW CEO Mr Smith said, "Addressing the skills crisis requires proactive measures and unwavering commitment. We call on the government to prioritise the skills and training portfolio and take decisive action to support the development of our future workforce.” For media inquiries, please get in touch with Nathaniel Smith at 0410 696 007 or [email protected] #masterplumbersassociationnsw #masterplumbersnsw #mpansw #MASTERPLUMBERS #MEMBERS #skills #training #apprentices #skillsandtraining #masterplumbersapprentices #mpa #masterplumbersapprenticeslimited

Two exciting vacancies in Yorkshire Policy Innovation Partnership (YPIP) project, phase 2. Project Manager https://bit.ly/3WrAJCS & Administrator https://bit.ly/3Wlxi0o YPIP has two innovative features that provide an exciting challenge. First, it brings diverse policy stake-holders – the business, public, voluntary, and community sectors – together with university researchers who are dedicated to helping meet these stakeholders’ goals for a fairer, more sustainable economy and society. Second, YPIP will unfold at an expansive scale: it will encompass an entire region of the UK, Yorkshire and the Humber, that is larger than some independent nations; and it will include, as participants, representatives of all 12 universities in this region. Leeds Social Sciences Institute was key in putting together the bid for the YPIP project. The YPIP project will unfold via one cross-cutting theme – communities in their places – and three distinct, multi-part work packages that will co-produce responses to urgent challenges of inclusive growth and sustainable living. The project will have a special focus on bringing members of socially and economically marginalized and spatially isolated communities into the policy equation. The project, which officially began on 1 January 2024, will terminate on 31 December 2026. Based at Leeds University Business School/hybrid, closing date 17.5.24 #Localpolicy #Jobs #Policyengagement #Economicgrowth
