3 years ago, our 2-year-old struggled to eat. It hurt him to swallow. We found out he had Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE). His body was flooding white blood cells to his throat to defend his body. His throat swelled, then narrowed, and he couldn't eat without pain. His brand-new body thought food was poison. Like many other parents we know, we went down a rabbit hole -- only to find out that EoE was 'man-made'. EoE picked up in the 90's, and most folks who have EoE are 20 and 30-year-olds. Said differently, young, new bodies can't process food that now grows from our 4.5 billion-year-old Earth. What have we done? 1/3 of our topsoil is unusable, more than 3,600 chemicals are found in food packaging, and 93% of the world's most popular water bottle brands contain microplastics. Something has to change, and we are doing something about it. We just made a major investment in a sustainable packaging company and are seeking investments across four sectors related to this big issue: our food is no longer food. If you are interested in fixing Earth and love manufacturing or services, send me a message. My son's body thinks milk is poison. Let's fix this for future two-year-olds.
Fixing our national food system (which is a cartel) is one of the single most important things we could do to improve the well being of America
I hope your son is doing better. As someone also living with EoE I would be interested in having a conversation!
We need more sustainable packing at scale and I’m looking forward to seeing what you do!
Vijen, you are an amazing entrepreneur and parent! This world needs more people like you! I hope your son is doing better!
Vijen - very much appreciate the post. I began getting food impactions at roughly your son's age, today I am 46. I was only diagnosed with EOE much later when I suffered an esophageal perforation in my 20s. For many years the only partial relief from impactions/strictures/narrowing was a regimen of swallowed corticosteroids (Fluticasone) - which was a suboptimal solution for multiple reasons. Last year I was prescribed Dupilumab (Dupixent) - and the impact has been life changing. I have not had a single incidence of swallowing difficulty since and my Eosinophil counts have drooped precipitously. I am not a physician, and certainly not offering medical advice and this treatment is likely well known to the community already. In the chance it is not figured worth passing along so that families can speak to their Doctors. Appreciate your leadership for this community of patients and the broader questions of causation you are raising. https://www.sanofi.com/en/media-room/press-releases/2024/2024-01-25-19-30-00-2817342
I am so sorry your beautiful baby is dealing with this! I am saddened to hear it, but also not surprised. I look at the dangers of food for our children every single day. And I am trying to do something about it with our all-natural, 3rd-party tested baby and toddler food (sold in GLASS JARS ONLY instead of spouted pouches to avoid the dangerous microplastics you mention above), Globowl. Also, if you haven't talked to Manuela Zoninsein from Kadeya yet, you should. She's leading the revolution in eliminating single-use plastics. I'd love to connect further if you have a few minutes. In the meantime, enjoy that little guy.
So sorry to hear what your little has gone through :-( Food and lifestyle related illnesses are the #1 cause of death in America. This has to change. The cost of our food system globally is $10T, 70% of that related to human health and the rest is environmental health. Happy to jam on it — I think about this all day 😅
Hope your son is doing better, there’s nothing harder than seeing our children struggle or face challenges regarding to health and it’s especially devastating when it comes as a result of things we’ve collectively done to the planet. Echoing what everyone else here is saying around fixing our broken food system in the US. Such an important thing for us to work on together.
WOW - My heart breaks reading about your little one's struggle with EoE - no 2-year-old should have to fight their body just to eat! Love seeing you channel this into real action though - you're going to help so many families by tackling these food and packaging issues head on. ❤️ We have a challenge - consumers are not educated on what is in their processed food - the typeface needs a microscope to read but soon anyone can take their phone and read the ingredients with AI and get a simple understanding of their risks without needing a PhD in Chemistry.

1moWow... to show how big of an issue this is, I have already gotten 20 messages from parents dealing with this. We need to get to work. This is the best video I've found on EOE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zK7fTTCtAd8
