3 years at AWS and for the 3rd year presenting at reInvent, it is a privilege and an honor. If you are also heading to Las Vegas this week and want to join me in my sessions about high-performance file systems, search my name on the session catalog. I will be presenting with Florian Stahl a workshop about training ML with EKS and FSx for Lustre (STG405), a chalktalk with Sebastien Berube about the right file system for the right workload (STG335), and a session with Aaron Dailey about the latest and greatest features on FSx for OpenZFS (STG320). #aws #reInvent24 #highperformance #storage

Reflections on AWS re:Invent 2024...From My Desk. Though I wasn’t able to attend AWS re:Invent 2024 in person due to a lost pass in the mail 😁...again...I monitored the conference remotely, and I wanted to share some candid observations that have been circulating among the cloud community. While the hype around generative AI continues to dominate discussions in our industry, it struck me that there was a significant lack of true innovation showcased at this year’s event. AWS made it abundantly clear that they are heavily invested in generative AI, presenting a plethora of new features focused largely on AI capabilities. However, many traditional cloud users—those who do not heavily rely on AI—are beginning to feel increasingly marginalized. This sentiment was echoed repeatedly across various platforms and conversations during the conference: numerous attendees voiced their frustration that their needs have been sidelined. They were specifically looking for enhancements in the core services that have long defined their cloud experiences, such as compute, storage, and networking. As I observed the streams of keynote speeches and breakout sessions, I noticed an overwhelming focus on AI trends and use cases. While these innovations can be exciting, they don’t necessarily resonate with companies whose operations depend on foundational services. Many of these users are seeking better performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness in the essential tools they rely on daily. It’s disheartening to see such a crucial segment of the user base feeling overlooked as providers race to promote their latest AI offerings. From my remote vantage point, one thing became clear: as we move forward, cloud providers must engage with all segments of their user base—not just those riding the AI wave. The future of cloud technology is undoubtedly evolving toward AI, but it’s essential that those foundational technologies aren’t neglected in that evolution. There is a substantial portion of the community that relies on established cloud services to drive their day-to-day operations, and these users deserve equal attention and investment. As we continue to navigate these transformative times in cloud computing, let’s ensure that innovation enhances the foundational technologies upon which our businesses rely. It's crucial for AWS and others in the industry to strike a balance between their exciting AI innovations and the everyday needs of users. I encourage everyone in the cloud community to engage in this vital discussion, voicing your needs and concerns to ensure that no segment of our community feels overlooked. AWS could have done better with the conference content. This is not just me saying this, but dozens of my cloud user clients who reached out to me. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. 😊 Your thoughts? https://lnkd.in/edGx_dcX

I recently attended AWS re:Invent 2024, it was an incredible event packed with insightful sessions. The experience was overwhelmingly inspiring, with so many incredible talks and sessions that it was impossible to catch up on everything. I’m glad some of the sessions were recorded so I can revisit them at my own pace! For those who couldn’t attend the event, I wanted to share some of the session videos and resources with you. These sessions cover a wide range of topics across AWS services, and I hope you find them as valuable as I did. Check them out through the link below #aws #cloudcomputing

Okay, I get that you have probably planned all your schedules for AWS re:Invent and by now, your calendar is stuffed. But, based on personal experience, at some point you will realize that you: * cant reach the next session in time 🏃♂️➡️🏃♀️➡️ * can't ingest more session content as your brain is overloaded with information 🤯 * rather go exploring the AWS re:Invent campus a bit 🧭 🗺️ * are in Vegas and playing cards seems like a good idea anyway 😁 And we'll be there for you. Waiting for you. Offering you a comfy chair at a table where things are not too seriously, but still all things AWS! 🤗 So why not go on a short walk? From the EXPO it's probably ~10 minutes to get to our booth in Caesar's Forum (we're under the escalator right next to PeerTalk) - see you there!
