🌍 Innovation & Regulation Updates: September 2024 Here’s the latest in #AI regulation and innovation from across 🇪🇺 Europe this month: 1️⃣ 🇬🇧 UK Signs First International AI Treaty (Published: 5 September 2024): The UK became the first to sign a legally-binding treaty on the safe use of AI, aimed at protecting human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. This new framework will help manage AI systems globally and ensure they are used safely, without eroding public trust. 🛡️ 2️⃣ european regions research and innovation network European Innovation Agenda Progress (Published: 9 September 2024): The European Commission reported that 13 out of 25 actions under the New European Innovation Agenda have been completed. These actions are helping startups access funding and resources, such as the €115M in EU funding allocated to innovation ecosystems, with additional €77M co-funded from private sources. 🎉 Another Successful European AI Conference! 🎉 Yesterday, we hosted the 9th edition of the European AI Forum Conference in beautiful Vilnius, organized by the Artificial Intelligence Association of Lithuania. It was an incredible day filled with insightful discussions and forward-thinking perspectives on AI in Europe. Yesterday, we had the honor of presenting our company to a visiting German delegation. 🇩🇪 Who’s better to represent PC7 than our very own Urban Rupnik and Tanja Pavleska? We explored crucial topics, including the ethical challenges and privacy concerns associated with AI, which sparked thoughtful dialogue. 🌐A key focus was the collaboration between businesses and the European Union and how the EU can support innovation. 🌍 We also discussed Slovenia’s AI regulations, where we proudly showcased our innovative product, PandaChat, which embodies our commitment to responsible AI development. 🐼 We would like to thank Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany for this amazing opportunity. Artificial intelligence is fundamentally transforming the way we live, and at a rapid pace. Yesterday, the Council of the EU unanimously voted to approve the Artificial Intelligence act, a pioneering law which aims to harmonise rules on artificial intelligence across the bloc. Going forward, policymakers must strike a balance between innovation and safeguarding, ensuring that AI’s potential is harnessed while Europe’s sovereignty, control and ethical responsibilities are upheld. The AI Act is an important first step in these efforts. Here, Youssef Travaly, Senior Fellow for Digital at the Africa-Europe Foundation (AEF), reminds us of the profundity of the change that is being brought about by AI, reiterating the importance of addressing and adapting to this transformation.
