✨ Reflecting on a year of growth and transformation ✨ Just over a year ago, I stepped into the role of Finance Business Analyst, a position originally designed for an Actuary due to its mathematical complexities. In true CA(SA) fashion, I embraced the challenge, ready to push beyond my traditional accounting background. Fast forward a year, and I’m proud to reflect on how this role has reshaped my career and mindset: • 🌟 From CA(SA) to SME: I’ve transitioned from a “traditional” Chartered Accountant to a Subject Matter Expert in financial modeling and the vital bridge between IT, Finance, and Business. • 🤝 A dynamic role: This is not just a job—it’s a platform that challenges the way I think daily. Every day is different, offering opportunities to innovate, collaborate, and solve complex problems. • 💡 Beyond the numbers: This experience has shown me the power of leveraging analytical and financial expertise to add value far beyond traditional accounting boundaries. Key takeaways from this journey: 1. Growth happens outside your comfort zone: Taking on a role outside my “expected” skill set was daunting but ultimately rewarding. 2. Collaboration is key: Bridging gaps between IT, Finance, and Business taught me the importance of cross-functional teamwork. 3. The future of finance is evolving: This role reinforced that finance professionals must adapt, innovate, and embrace technology to stay relevant. As I reflect on this past year, I’m filled with gratitude for the challenges, opportunities, and growth this role has provided. Here’s to embracing change, pushing boundaries, and continuing to learn in 2025! 🚀

I had a fantastic evening with the Finance Professionals Forum of GLT Church discussing "Winning Skills for Career Success". 🌟 I emphasized the need for finance professionals to continually expand their skill sets in order to keep pace with the tech enabled transformation and innovation in the world and our industries. Here are a few takeaways from the session: 1. Blend of Skills: Finance professionals require a mix of technical and soft skills. This includes analytical prowess, problem-solving abilities, knowledge of GAAP and tax laws, as well as soft skills like critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, emotional intelligence, and adaptability. 2. Industry Expertise: Understanding industry regulations and nuances is crucial for success in finance. 3. Development Strategies: To acquire winning skills, invest in continuous learning, seek mentorship and networking opportunities, take on stretch assignments and project-based work to obtain hands-on experience. 4. The role of technology: Leverage technology to enhance efficiency and impact within our organizations. For example, sections of my PPT presentation were edited using #copilotformicrosoft365. By adopting a mindset of lifelong learning, finance professionals can excel in the dynamic and competitive finance landscape. 💼📈 #FinanceSuccess #CareerDevelopment #LifelongLearning Thanks again to Emmanuel Onasami ACA for inviting me to be a part of this session.

Social media. Not really my thing, but I do like sharing and helping others. So that’s going to be the new focus for this account. I wanted to start by talking about my recent experience of growing into a #1 role in finance. This has taken time and experience, and with the support of GrowCFO and Catherine Clark BA (Hons) FCA FIOD LIAC in particular, I built my confidence. The training itself taught me this: no one is spectacular and knows how to do everything. Knowledge was gained through experience, and we’ve all had different experiences. So everyone has had the same growth challenges as you do. My core takeaways were: - Commitment - to be a leader in finance you need to be committed. To accuracy, personal development, challenging the norm, overall growth of yourself, others, the finance function and the business. - Competence - we all have varying skills and varied experience. You don't have to be good at everything. Acknowledging your gaps is more important, and plugging them with learning or, sometimes better skilled personnel is just fine. - Confidence - this comes in time and with the aforementioned. But being comfortable in your own version of CFO is exactly what you need. The video is more of a waffle!

I Discovered Financial Modeling After Failing an ICAN Exam Many stories on this platform are filled with success, but not many dive into the learning that comes from failure. I’ve come to believe that failure, in its own way, offers a balanced view of life’s challenges and opens unexpected doors. My journey with financial modeling began after failing a paper in my ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) exams at the ATS3 level. Preparing to retake a single paper felt like a narrow use of time, so I decided to explore other ways to use this period productively. That’s when I discovered financial modeling and valuation analysis through ALX. My name is Itunu Adewole, a final-year Economics student at Obafemi Awolowo University, where I also serve as the current Executive President of the Nigerian Economics Students' Association. Balancing the rigorous demands of Economics with ICAN exams has been a challenging journey, but one that has strengthened my resilience and taught me to persevere through setbacks. My passion for financial modeling took root the first time I saw Microsoft Excel used to build three-statement models, capturing a company’s entire financial narrative. Learning how these models forecast future cash flows strengthened my love for finance even further. Long before I understood what a financial analyst actually does, I was captivated by the title "Financial Analyst." Now, it feels like a self-fulfilling prophecy as I work toward making it my career. This passion has led me to take courses from the Corporate Finance Institute, Udemy, and various online resources, immersing myself in financial concepts and analysis techniques. I’ve also participated in job simulations offered by respected financial institutions on platforms like Forage, as well as reading up on compliance standards within the financial sector. This scholarship opportunity represents a vital step in deepening my technical skills in financial modeling. More importantly, it would allow me to learn alongside a community of like-minded individuals, where the shared environment can amplify my growth. I am eager to contribute my perspective and gain insights from others driven by the same passion. Finance is, to me, a pillar of inclusive economic growth and sustainable development—a goal I strive to support and help shape. I see young people not only as torchbearers of the future but as architects of the present, actively building it today. Thank you dbrownconsulting for considering my application for this scholarship. It would be an invaluable opportunity to deepen my understanding and continue this journey with the skills, perspective, and network I gain. #FMAScholarshipNov2024 #FinancialModelingAcademy #FMA #Scholarship
