There is one issue in America that impacts every life... FOOD. According to Eric Kessler in this Food Talk Podcast episode, "By addressing food and agriculture, you touch small business owners and entrepreneurship, you touch rural economy, you touch access and equity, you touch conservation and climate change." Food and agriculture is one of the latest issues falling prey to partisanship on Capitol Hill. Local municipalities will have to take up the mantle of protecting their community's access to food. I hope to see leaders like Andre Dickens, Mayor of the City of Atlanta, and Rochelle Robinson, Mayor of the City of Douglasville, GA enact plans and policies that address these issues. Eager to be a part of the discussion. Take a listen to this episode to get more information on the impact of the proposed Farm Bill in Congress now. #foodtalk #foodequity #healthdisparities #immigration #climatechange #foodbill #foodandagriculture Listen here: Food Talk Podcast Episode with Eric Kessler

Indigenous Food Sovereignty Consultant Cheyenne Robinson joined NCAT's Maura Henn and Molly Kirkham to talk about their project, “Understanding Through Listening: Connecting with Native Food Ways in Montana,” in a recent episode of our podcast, Voices from the Field. The project focused on holding listening sessions in Native American communities in Montana, primarily on Indian reservations, to learn if community members would be interested in developing an Indigenous Harvest of the Month program. Harvest of the Month is a farm-to-school educational framework designed to promote locally grown food in Montana schools and communities. Maura, Molly, and Cheyenne talk about what they learned conducting the sessions, the process of developing the listening-session framework, and what their next steps will be. What do farmers worry about? I am fortunate enough to know some amazing farmers, and I started asking them about their concerns. What are the threats to their land, and their livelihoods, that keep them up at night? How can policy professionals, advocates, and average citizens, support the future of food and health security in America? Bringing together the voices of farmers and sustainable agriculture professionals, my latest podcast episode connects seemingly disparate issues and weaves them together into a complex narrative that spans food policy, health policy, agricultural policy, environmental issues, unintended consequences, and existential threats. The episode contains first person narratives, data rich references, and an optimistic call to action. I hope you’ll listen!
