Just returned home to Australia ❤️❤️ customs this morning is honestly like a cattle station 🐂 the only thing missing are the prods 👎 queues are snaking around 🐍 must be about 300m long 🤦🏻♂️ - a proverbial 🎪- and this is even before we show these outdated paper cards - surely we can do better 🙏🙏🙏

Victor Dominello like you I’ve just come back from a trip to Japan, USA, Ireland and Italy. The main issue was on returning through NYC as a “transit” passenger you still need to formally enter the USA which makes no sense. Further we waited in line for over 2 hours to get through USA Customs. Clearly a staffing issue as only 2 customs agents for 3 international arrivals… Now on the Agricultural Declaration form…it’s simple to fill in and forces the passenger to think though by declaring their position on key items that are critical in protecting Australia’s key Primary Industries. Nothing wrong with that and it needs to be done just prior to entering Oz. A key question should be “would there be any efficiencies achieved through “digitising” the form?” Not likely. Nice try but you need to suck it up as not all goes perfectly when you travel os….

It’s the worst it’s ever been in my 40 years of overseas travel Victor Dominello and may I say almost a disincentive to travel? Border Force need to sort out the immigration tech and remove the need for the white slips entirely , it’s a peculiarity to me why we have this 2 step process in Sydney but yet London, Singapore etc just straight to an electronic gate. If we do need to answer questions surely it can be done on line before we land.

For the life of me I still can’t understand why we have a paper form to fill out to return to our own country… we don’t even need one to enter another country like the USA (ie an ESTA). We are severely lagging when it comes to digital adoption for citizens to enter/exit the country.

Victor Dominello I’m a bit intrigued … the paper slips are annoying and time consuming to fill out but where is it impacting on queue lengths and processing. I haven’t travelled o/s for a bit but as I recall there’s no data entry from the form … are we asking the wrong questions? Btw from bio security to immigration risks we (Australia) have a lot more friction than many other countries to navigate at our ports.

It's such a disappointing 'welcome' to our beautiful country compared to other immigration processes. Take Singapore, online registration and seamless entry. Or recent trip to Heathrow, walked through, scanned passport and away I went, completely system driven. Being one of the best countries in the world, we need to do better and meet the global standard NOW! Keep pushing Victor Dominello because #graphsaresexy!!

Ah, just the same as when we had to queue like cattle when using QR codes to get into a place….?!? Yeah, I don’t want a dystopian, 1984 paying with QR codes like in communist Chin@……, Either 👍🏻🙄

I travelled back from Bali and needed 3 pieces of paper at Australian customs even as an Australian citizen and E pass passport holder. 1) paper with my photo on it 2 customs declarations 3) e pass ticket. 🤷♂️

And why on earth do we need to stop for multiple seconds with what clearly is an outdated Face rec, we could recognise all faces as the crowd walks through without waiting at all as you have seen. Just upload a pic of your passport before arrival and the rest is an efficient seamless, frictionless immigration experience.
