Many skilled craft people are looking for work. Even though there’s not enough labor to go around, I’m seeing a trend for those that possess a specific skill set looking to work with organizations who value their years of experience. It’s apparent that these individuals don’t want to go to a shop environment or even a jobsite where they are performing the same monotonous task over-and-over-and- over again. It looks like these highly skilled workers are looking for companies that value their years of experience while providing them with diversified, and interesting tasks that can be as varied as hours in the day. I had a conversation with an organization this week who’s new hires fit a unique profile. They need more workers like you with the flexibility to work a variety of jobs and perform work that makes a difference. I can put you in touch with some good people if you are a: - Welder - Pipe Fitter - Mill Wright/ Mechanic - Client Focused Mechanical Engineer Let me know if I can help you or someone in your network. Asking for a friend.

When it comes to safety, curiosity is as vital as the processes you put in place. This is one of the biggest mistakes that will happen ↓ You'll see a safety person out in the field with a checklist And they're gonna go down to do an inspection or see what kind of work is being done by say... a welder or… a pipe fitter Even though that safety person has never been a welder or a pipe fitter in their previous line of work. They could have never touched a single tool in their lives and spent every working minute behind a computer... And they're gonna go and tell this crusty old pipe fitter that he's doing things unsafely and how he can do it differently? Or an ironworker? Or a rigger? It could be any trade. Any trade that requires years of on-the-job experience to learn how to do. I don’t think so! When I’m talking about curiosity It’s about understanding ↙ 1. What they're doing 2. Why they're doing it 3. And the way they're doing it That's why understanding the trades is so important in this line of work and it’s one of the biggest things missing from modern safety. You can’t bring cubicle workers to a job site and expect their training to take them the entire way. It just won’t work. Approach with curiosity, not compliance. If you agree… Hit that repost button ♻️ What do you think? Tell me below. #leadership #safety #health #psychology

To my connections. Do or should, orbital welders that complete orbital welding courses, that don’t have a plumbers, fitters or pipe fitters background get the full trade rate? I am not looking or an argument. I’m interested to see what people think of it. If I was hiring an orbital welder, I would try look for a qualified pipe fitter/ plumber/ fitter, who can tig weld a stainless support and has completed the orbital course. I would recommend giving them an extra few euro on the rate for doing the welding and they would also look after pipe install, supports and slope checking. They could do this with a general operative, who would do the running around for them. Should orbital welders with no trade just get general operative rate like all machine operators? Is orbital welding a trade? If you are an orbital welder and can’t tig weld a stainless steel support, are you any real advantage to a high purity team?
