Recently I'm seeing a trend of SLTs separating their SLT provision in EHCPs between direct and indirect provision. The only issue I have is that for some reason Assessment; Modelling and Training of Teaching Assistants is being classified as "Direct SLT" whilst Report Writing; Attending Meetings and Preparing Resources is classified as "Indirect SLT". Whilst it is great to see clinical admin being accounted for in Section F of EHCPs I do have an objection to how "Direct SLT" has shifted from referring to "Direct Therapy" to including other tasks. Personally whilst assessments are face to face I would consider this to be "Indirect SLT" (and not Direct) as this opaqueness can lead to families and schools incorrectly believing that a child is receive direct therapy when they are not.

Jack’s story, along with reflections from his partner and parents, reminds us of the urgent need to address these issues head-on.
