They say lightning never strikes the same place twice, but both of Stijn's workshops at Wednesday's Innovation Roundtable® were electrifying for sure! ⚡ Let's 'round up' our key insights on: 🌱 Organizing for mid-term impact in a short-term environment 1. Venture strategists are like professional portfolio investors, you have to speak their language and measure your efforts to go beyond ROI 2. Innovation programs thrive with multi-generational accountability. Think of it as a way to avoid the inconsistent decision-making that can come from short-term leaders—much like politics! 3. Agree on what to measure and survey them structurally to see if the needle is moving. Don't forget about cultural elements! 4. If output or impact is hard to measure, use activity-based metrics, like decision-making speed, as personal targets to improve step-by-step. 🚀 Instrumenting breakthrough innovation ventures 1. No shortcut to hard work and no party without resources. Breakthrough innovation requires dedicated teams! 2. Actively organize for multidisciplinarity: Set up a complementary core team and bring in even more diversity at critical points. 3. Supercharge (venture) teams with critical tools like ecosystems, prototyping capabilities, and method coaches. If not available in-house, partner up externally! Focused on agile transformation and decarbonization, Innovation Roundtable dazzled us once again with inspiring insights. A fantastic way to reconnect with clients and make some new friends along the way! ✨ #InnovationRoundtable #InnovationVentures #AgileTransformation #Decarbonization

Watch: Mack Institute co-director Valery Yakubovich participated in a fireside chat on corporate innovation with the Center for the Future of Organization, Drucker School of Management. "Corporate innovation remains one of the big challenges organizations face when they have reached a certain maturity stage and want to grow or reinvent themselves. We know that “exploiting” the present requires a different mind- and capability set as “exploring” future opportunities. How can we mitigate these conflicting rationales? How can we move beyond “innovation theater” – the hackathons, pitch-me sessions, or agile sprints that all too often remain empty exercises?" https://lnkd.in/eZYjEmHy

we all know that one person who still saves a copy of the file to make their edits in, right? Why can't they just figure it out?! Culture, organization, and market development are the most common barriers to disruptive innovation. Check out some strategies HBR suggests for overcoming these challenges rather than continuing to indulge in versioning issues, and other common office blunders!

You wouldn’t call yourself an innovator, would you? Think again. We tend to divide people into ““innovators” and the rest. Innovators are highly prized because they make what seem to be the big leaps forward in any field. They are the “lighthouse” individuals, they stand out above the rest, and they get the fame, and sometimes the fortune, although many end up, like Mozart, dying in poverty. But the truth is that the lighthouse innovations never stand alone. There is more to lighthouses than light. Each one has solid foundations that can withstand terrible weather, there are the building blocks that raise the light to where it can be seen, and never forget all the ships and their crews that foundered on the rocks. They are the reason for the lighthouse, Innovation is never a one-off; the celebrated innovator is often the last kid holding the parcel when the music stops. The final innovation is built on huge numbers of tiny steps forward. I was reminded of this last week at a company event when some great innovators (though I don’t think that’s what they would call themselves) presented what they had done, using their company’s products, to improve the efficiency and performance of their customers. Productivity is built on a huge number of small innovations, often unnoticed and uncelebrated, that move us forward. Notice them and celebrate them. They may not win the prizes, but they move us forward, step by tiny step. #wisdom #transformationalleadership #riskmanagement #scenarioplanning #optimiseproductivity #robotsintheworkplace If you are interested in this Post or want help with the things we talk about, please get touch and follow us on LinkedIn at Defy Expectations.
