Rick Chorney of Echo Janitorial Services is shaking up the cleaning industry with his unique business model. Instead of trying to convince potential clients with words, he lets his work do the talking. His team comes in, whether you have cleaners or not, during your business hours, so you don't have to arrange the access. They show you what they consider to be a proper cleaning service. And the best part? It's free. But Rick doesn't stop there. He also gives clients a detailed report of what their current cleaners might be missing. It's a bold move, putting his company's name and reputation on the line, but it's one that is already paying off. His approach forces us to question the status quo. Are we settling for less when it comes to cleaning services? Are there aspects we're overlooking that could be improved? Rick's disruptive approach is not just about business. It's also about eco-friendly practices. His company is leading the charge in promoting environmental sustainability in the cleaning industry. It's a refreshing take on a service that is often taken for granted. It challenges us to consider the impact of our choices on the environment and how businesses can play a significant role in promoting sustainability. Tune in to the latest episode of Leaving the Front Line to hear more about Rick's unique business models and eco-friendly practices.

HEADLINE: Stunning Setback for the Cleaning Industry ISSUE: The proposed US Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations + Maintenance Rating System Version 5 (LEED-EB: O+M V5) poses a setback to the professional cleaning industry, seemingly disregarding over a decade of established standards. KEY CONCERNS: · The Prerequisites for management systems and training for workers have been eliminated. · The social equity credit is designed for construction workers and not janitors, food service workers, or other contract workers in a building. · The “weighting” (number of points) undervalues cleaning. For example: > Cleaning is equal in points to a one-time survey of occupant satisfaction, requiring only 15% of the occupants to respond. > Cleaning is equal to a one-time indoor air quality sampling with no requirement to do anything if the air quality is poor. > Cleaning is worth one-third as many points as waste prevention and disposal. KEY QUOTE: "Understanding how the LEED committee thinks removing trash and recyclables is worth three times that of cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting, and other related services is hard to imagine," Steve Ashkin, the professional industry's leading advocate for green cleaning and sustainability. WHAT YOU CAN DO: Join ISSA and The Ashkin Group for a FREE but vital webinar on April 22nd (Earth Day) at 1 pm ET, which will offer a deeper dive into LEED-EB: O+M V5’s implications and how to advocate for a fair representation of the cleaning sector. This session is a pivotal platform for voicing how the Rating System can better represent cleaning’s essential role and the broader social equity considerations, especially for frontline cleaning staff.
