** NETWORK ** WHAT A PICTURE! This week, I was invited back to Smartnumbers to sit in the the DEI committee to advise on their journey to date. Although we're all smiles in this picture, there were a lot of discussions that were thought provoking. There are two things I'd like to share with everyone today who are looking to create impact. 1. As passionate as we might be when it comes to making internal and external impact when it comes to DEI; be mindful and remember that not everyone thinks the same way. It will take time and patience to change mindsets and practices. 2. Be mindful of expectations. Who has ever experienced sending a survey to a global company of 300 employee's and only 25 reply by the deadline? Statistics still suggest that in technical manager positions, only 52 women are promoted for every 100 men. This, combined with the fact that only about 25% of technical jobs are held by women to begin with, tells us that there is still a lot of work to be done to change these numbers. The transition from an individual contributor to a management position is a big step in anyone’s career. In so many situations, it starts with self-doubt and fear of the unknown. 🙋♀️ But once you decide to “be the change” and accept being "comfortable with the uncomfortable", what's next?
