Recently, Tom had an insightful conversation with an executive from a large auto group focused on used inventory. He reminded me of something crucial - franchise dealers often have a steady stream of high-quality trade-ins thanks to their brand affiliations. Independent dealers, however, face a tougher challenge. They rarely get the same level of trades, making the need to source high-quality cars even more critical. That's where sourcing from private parties becomes a game-changer. For independent dealers, it's an opportunity to level the playing field and stock their lots with top-tier vehicles. A blast from the past!! Nissan Motor Corporation continues its attempt to move old inventory (2023 models) with field staff calling dealers to take vehicles. Nissan dealers are largely unprofitable in North America and its committed dealers continue to deal with the OEM's dysfunctional culture that is decades old. Kudos to them for sticking with the brand, but the franchise value is among the lowest in the industry and there are no indications to see it rectified. Days supply, Asian OEMs: Nissan 104 Hyundai 83 Kia 60 Honda 48 Toyota 34 Industry average 76 Only Honda and Toyota Motor Corporation are at healthy levels (not 60 days!!) Nothing learned from the Covid/chip shortage period....highest profitability ever recorded for OEMs and dealers. #automotive #automotiveindustry #marketing #digitalmarketing #sales #leadership #management #innovation #ecommerce #branding #ai #brand #ev #electricvehicles #technology

Despite the predictions of many pundits, the franchised dealer distribution system remains a vital and robust component of the automotive industry. While direct models like Tesla's have garnered attention, the value of local dealers has only become more apparent. Franchised dealers are more than just points of sale; they are integral parts of their communities. They provide personalized service, create local jobs, and support regional economies. Their deep-rooted relationships with customers foster trust and long-term loyalty that cannot be replicated by impersonal direct sales models. The franchise system’s resilience lies in its adaptability and customer-centric approach. Dealers offer a comprehensive value proposition: expert knowledge, dedicated service, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. This unique combination ensures that the franchise model continues to thrive, meeting the evolving needs of today’s car buyers. As Dealers, we pride ourselves on embodying these principles, delivering exceptional service and fostering strong community ties. The franchise system is not just surviving; it’s thriving, proving its enduring value in an ever-changing market. 🚗 #AutomotiveIndustry #nada #FranchiseDealers #CommunityValue #CustomerService #JobCreation #EconomicSupport #LocalBusinesses #DealerNetwork #TrustAndLoyalty #CustomerRelationships #FranchiseSuccess #AutomotiveDistribution National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Scout Motors Inc. [NEWS] Dealership M&A activity is heating up despite falling profits: 92 rooftops sold in Q3 — a 10% bump from the previous quarter but still down year-to-date from 2023. Even so — 2024 is shaping up to be the fourth-busiest year for buy-sells ever. But here’s where it gets interesting… The big winner last quarter was Mazda — the only franchise to see blue sky values rise as industry averages trend downward. The reason? Higher throughput from fewer overall stores is safeguarding profitability at a time when earnings are down almost everywhere — Especially at brands like Nissan and Stellantis, whose dealers are back to 2019-level profits. Bottom line: industry averages don't always show the whole picture — you can always bet on some brands standing out from the crowd and right now — I’m liking Mazda’s formula. New Vehicle Inventory Is Back To 2019 Level At the start of October 2024, U.S. dealerships had an average of 81 days’ supply of new vehicles, an increase of one day compared to the level observed in October 2019. For some dealers, this increase in new vehicle inventory has been a welcome change, while dealerships selling some brands are overstuffed and are frantically attempting to move dated MY2023 and MY2024 inventory as MY2025 deliveries ramp up. Toyota, Lexus and Honda have maintained 30-50 days’ supply throughout 2024, the lowest levels among the brands we track. This disciplined approach to inventory control taken by them has allowed their dealers to sustain pandemic-era earnings far better than most other franchises. On the other end of the spectrum lie Stellantis brands, as well as Nissan and Volvo, who have sat at the top of new vehicle inventory metrics for the bulk of the year. Haig Report Q3 2024

Have you ever wondered how dealers come up with a Trade value on your vehicle? In today’s video we’re finally going to debunk this age-old mystery! When it comes to trading in your vehicle at the dealership, always remember the 3 R’s: RECONDITIONING- dealers will factor in their reconditioning costs since they have to bring the vehicle up to a certain standard before it’s ready for resale. The 3 main items they will look at are the condition of your tires, brakes & the body RELATIVE VEHICLES- your vehicle will be scored against all of the similar vehicles on the current market, comparing the kms, options, number of units available & how many days they have been on the market RETURN ON INVESTMENT- it’s important to understand that it is a business for dealers and they are using their own cash flow to purchase your vehicle & therefore are looking to get a 7-10% return on their investment depending on the make/model/desirability of the trade vehicle We hope this information will help you understand the trade appraisal process better & if you’re looking for a fair, competitive and transparent market value for your vehicle, come visit us at Mercedes-Benz Toronto Queensway 📍 . . . #mercedes #mercedesbenz #amg #cardealership #trade #value #appraisal #vehicle #reconditioning #relative #returnoninvestment #process #dealership #toronto #Zanchin #automotive #fy

Well here’s a ray of sunshine in a seemingly bleak financial landscape. A manufacturer spreading some positive vibes. Renault Group UK suggesting that they’re bucking the trend. But all this against a slowing in EV sales as people begin to be less persuaded that EV is the way to go. It’d also be great to hear how Renault & Dacia Dealership Owners react to these figures. Great to see the NFDA | National Franchised Dealers Association Dealer Attitude Survey referenced - Is it reflected in the profitability of the people at the coal face of new car sales?
