The rise of super niche markets, driven by platforms like Reddit, Inc. and TikTok, has elevated subcultures into mainstream consciousness. Yet, as #trends move faster and #content supply grows, communities are retreating to offline spaces and private platforms to reclaim control and foster deeper, more intentional connections. "As content supply grows, trends move faster and generative AI amplifies the pace, #communities are increasingly retreating to real-world spaces and private groups to regain a sense of control. On top of this, post-pandemic, activity clubs such as running groups surged in popularity worldwide, providing younger generations with opportunities to form new friendships offline. This marks a shift away from the convenience of apps and #social media, as many seek deeper, serendipitous #connections that the #digital world often cannot replicate." - Miki Sim, Director of Platforms and Culture Thank you, Sunna Coleman and LBBonline - Little Black Book for the opportunity to share what we're seeing more of as we move into 2025!

It's time to think about Gen Alpha and their needs & expectations. Education and edtech are the first to serve young generations before they even become adults and paying consumers. Here are some trends I've noticed so far. What does Gen Alpha need and want? Well, let's look at the environment they've been raised in during their formative years: # Easy access to technology and the internet 🤖 Outcome 1: They're easy prey for social media so they became avid users of TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, Instagram. Not Facebook. Why? -- Outcome 2: Children are instinctively drawn to the movement of humans and humanoid shapes so they're huge fans of video content (i.e. TikToks! Facebook isn't great for that). # Partly schooled during the pandemic during key years 💻👩🏫 Outcome 3: They got bored to death so they looked at the easiest source of entertainment available from home... you guessed it. Social media also became their only way to connect with peers during that time; it enabled their social life. Outcome 4: They're craving authentic connection and at the same time, ever expecting to be entertained 🤡 Possible evidence: Stand-up comedy has tripled in size (according to Bloomberg) and the comedians must thank Tiktok and Instagram for that (Washington Post). Links below. SO it's not just my feed 🌝 The digital environment is just as real for Gen Alpha as the physical world. They're inspired by TikTok influencers in the same way I was inspired by Disney child stars. Because I saw them on TV every day. Because they see them on their phones every day. # They're living through the AI wave; this one's still happening so I'm not sure what outcome it will have. But one could wonder... What impact do you think this will have on Gen Alpha's expectations? If you found this post interesting, give it a 👍 to let me know and I'll continue the list of insights. Is Gen Z Lazy? They are if you own a media outlet. It's the same old bs. As a Gen Xer, I'm amused by the tired Generational Hype 🙄🔥... hearing how this or that generation is "ruining everything." Here's a clip I just uploaded to TikTok about the century-old grift behind those clickbait headlines. 👀 I try to break down how EVERY generation gets trolled, from "slackers" to "snowflakes"... so struggling media outlets can raise their viewership metrics 🔄🚫 Whether you're Gen Z, Millennial, or just amused by the generational blame game, my dumb little rant will arm you with historical facts to shut down the haters. 💪📚 Note: I'm too old to be talking/writing like this... or using emoticons... or being on TikTok. 😎 #GenZ #GenX# #WhyTheHellAreYouStillOnLinkedIn?

A Pew Research Center study reveals that 54% of U.S. adults now get news from social media, with YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok leading the way, especially among 18–29-year-olds. Facebook and YouTube are the top platforms for news, with users favoring short, engaging content over lengthy reports. However, trust is mixed: while half of young adults express some trust in social media news, misinformation remains a concern, as it's more frequently shared than balanced reporting. America, a beacon of democracy, draws the world's admiration for its foundational values of freedom and opportunity. Yet, the potential ban on TikTok, a platform where over 300,000 influencers craft their livelihoods, challenges the very essence of these democratic principles. It's a stark reminder that the power of digital platforms should not be concentrated in the hands of a few. As we navigate this complex landscape, we must seek solutions that honor our democratic ideals, ensuring that innovation, expression, and entrepreneurship flourish freely. Let's champion a future where technology serves democracy, fostering a diverse, vibrant digital ecosystem. #DigitalFreedom #InnovationForAll #stabdwithshou #standfortiktok
