🚨 Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are an emergency today! 🚨 Responsible for the largest share of mortality, they remain a silent threat amidst crises caused by communicable diseases like HIV, TB, and COVID-19. We are excited to release a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis: "Prevalence of NCDs, Their Risk Factors, and In-hospital Mortality in COVID-19 Patients in the WHO African Region." https://lnkd.in/d2PtJkuW This study underscores how #NCDs, such as #hypertension, #diabetes, and #heartdisease, along with risk factors like: 🏋️ Obesity 💔 Hypertension 💉 Diabetes 🚬 Smoking 🛌 Physical inactivity These factors exacerbate the risks and complications of communicable diseases, leading to higher mortality rates. The intersection of #NCDs and infectious diseases is a public health emergency we must address immediately. 📊 Key Takeaways: NCDs and risk factors like obesity, hypertension, and diabetes are significantly prevalent in COVID-19 patients and dramatically increase the risk of severe outcomes, including death. Addressing these NCDs and their risk factors is essential to mitigating the impact of pandemics and building stronger, more resilient health systems. Together, we must act now to prevent and control NCDs, saving lives and enhancing our response to future health crises. #NCDs #COVID19 #HIV #TB #PublicHealth #SilentThreat #WHO #Africa #HealthSystems #Healthcare #BeatNCDs Cheick Bady Diallo Prof. Jean-Marie Dangou Prebo Barango Issifou YAYA

"DOING WELL BY DOING GOOD Why investing in global health R&D benefits the United States and the world. Improved health resulting from the use of new technologies removes a significant barrier to economic development. Costs of managing malaria alone can consume up to 8% of families’ budgets in endemic regions, and cause a 1.3% reduction in gross domestic product (GDP) US investments in global health R&D also protect the health and security of Americans, who are increasingly at risk from neglected and emerging diseases." https://lnkd.in/ggvydecB

Hello connections !!!! I am glad to share about World Pharmacy Day .... Pharmacists: Meeting global health needs” is the theme of World Pharmacists Day on 25 September 2024. FIP, the leader of pharmacy at a global level, has existed for over a century, recognising the need to work across borders in order to improve health. The health challenges our world faces are increasingly international and multidimensional, and the importance of ensuring good health and strong, sustainable health systems in every country, eliminating health inequities, was highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, more countries and organisations have now developed new global health strategies,1-4 setting out urgent current and future challenges, such as lack of access to health care, shortages of healthcare professionals, antimicrobial resistance, climate change and air pollution, HIV, and emerging infectious diseases. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking

More than half of SA’s tuberculosis (TB) patients face catastrophic costs that drive their households deeper into poverty, new research commissioned by the health department shows. The findings are important because financial barriers that stand in the way of patients’ ability to travel to clinics to collect test results and medication pose a challenge to the government’s plans for combating the disease, which aim to reduce cases by 80% by 2030. To meet this objective, the government of South Africa will need to address the social and economic factors that impact access to TB treatment.
