Diving deep into ruminant nutrition! 🐄🔬 Had an incredible field visit to the Veterinary Research Institute (VRI) Peradeniya under Animal Experimentation course module. Gained invaluable theoretical and practical knowledge about the in vitro gas production technique for ruminant feed analysis. It was fascinating to witness firsthand how rumen liquid is collected through a sheep fistula. In vitro gas production is a crucial technique to evaluate feed digestibility and fermentation characteristics in ruminants. This knowledge will be instrumental in developing innovative feed strategies for optimal animal performance. #ruminantnutrition #animalnutrition #invitrogasproduction #veterinaryresearch #fieldvisit #VRI #AnimalExperimentation

Hello everyone!! Our latest study on the disposition kinetics of pantoprazole in adult goats and sheep is out on the veterinary journal! This research is particularly timely given the increasing occurrence of abomasal ulcers in small ruminants, a significant concern in intensive animal farming. Key Findings? - Comparison Across Species: Both sheep and goats showed similar systemic exposure levels to PTZ, regardless of administration route. - Sheep exhibited a shorter half-life (t1/2) due to a higher volume of distribution compared to goats. - Comparable Cl values with low extraction ratios were observed in both species, suggesting a more likely passive elimination of the drug. - No significant differences in systemic exposure were observed between the species, suggesting no need for dosage adjustments. - Given the AUC values, the administered doses may be effective for reducing abomasal pH. We're excited about the implications of this study for improving animal welfare and productivity in farms!! Further research will delve into PTZ’s pharmacodynamics to fully understand its therapeutic potential. #VeterinaryResearch #Pharmacokinetics #AnimalHealth #Pantoprazole #Sheep #Goats #AbomasalUlcers #Pharmacology #VeterinaryScience
