VP People & Culture - PolicyMe I Ex-Deloitte

I never thought I'd work in HR. To be honest, I thought it was a career were bright humans lost their light. So much process and policy and little buy-in for innovation from executives. That said, the times have changed. HR is leading the way in AI use and implementation in the business. HR is figuring out how to make high performance work and stick. HR is creating safe spaces where people want to show up for work. HR is changing the game. I get that we are still evolving, sometimes we still end up spending too much time on nitty gritty process and policy or we find that there is a lot of push back for our ideas. But we can't ignore the incredible progress we've made as an enabling agent in the business. Shoutout to the incredible HR leaders out there continuing to pave the way for what HR really is and can be. #leadership #hr #innovation

I think we (HR professionals) have been used as a tool to be part of the problem rather than the solution for a long time. We were ruled by fear, and in turn, ruled by fear ourselves. Before getting into HR, I never wanted to work in HR because I never wanted to work in the department that never wanted to hear me. They never wanted to hear if there were concerns, unfairness in the workplace, toxic cultures and bosses. When given the opportunity, I started my career in HR for those very same reasons. I wanted to change the way HR operated and was seen. We are there to protect the business always and foremost. But we are also there, to hear the people and ensure the business is protected in a safe, equitable, and inclusive way to all those who support it. It’s been an uphill battle for those of us in HR, but hopefully within the next few years we will continue to see more change and growth.

Wow, Vanesa Cotlar, MBA, as if you could read minds 😅 I was just reflecting about:“How did I end up doing HR Analytics?“ I think it’s really about #CoCreation: HR needs to drive things that might be non-traditional, and people outside HR need to move into it, to augment those skills. I do consider myself the latter and hope to learn so much from the people who are rocking HR since years. 🚀

Hi Vanessa - this is such a great post and sentiment regarding the future of HR and how vital the department and it's innovation and leadership is to thriving organizations. Curious about your thoughts on PEO's and how they impact HR leadership today?

The field has definitely changed and we are lucky to have you to support our journey!

HR is allowed to zoom out when needed. Why is one individual a high performer and another in the same role not? Is it them, the manager, their location, home life, remote, training, access, etc. So much more then a manager telling them to do better next quarter.

Being in HR means we need to be the ones leading the way for change also because it is always around and coming.

Couldn’t agree more, Vanesa Cotlar, MBA. Well said. HR innovation is driving quantum business value 🚀
