The poor results of the Central Superior Services examinations and those conducted by provincial public service commissions in recent years give a good idea of the deplorable state of education in Pakistan. One reason for this state of affairs might be the existence of different curriculums in schools. In prestigious elite English-medium schools, curriculums prepared by well-known international universities are followed and their exams are also conducted by international universities. Urdu-medium and so-called English-medium schools follow curriculums prescribed by indigenous education departments.

Journeying Through Higher Education As a student immersed in higher education, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative power of learning. In Pakistan, we proudly boast 259 universities nationwide. However, our current accessibility to higher education stands at 13%, which falls short of the global average of 38%. This stark contrast highlights the pressing need for concerted efforts to expand educational opportunities across our nation. Across the border in India, urban areas enjoy a higher accessibility rate of 44%, while rural regions achieve 24%. This disparity underscores the importance of addressing regional disparities in educational access. The Higher Education Commission's 2025 vision aimed ambitiously for a 30% accessibility rate, a goal we're still striving to achieve. In Punjab alone, we host 86 universities—50 public and 36 private—alongside 825 public colleges and 2,165 private colleges. However, with 5 districts lacking any universities and a population exceeding 127 million, innovative solutions and collaborative efforts are essential for progress. How can we leverage our existing resources—both public and private—to enhance accessibility and quality in higher education? Let's not only expand the number of institutions but also cultivate an environment that fosters learning and growth. Together, let's reshape the landscape of higher education in Pakistan, empowering more students to pursue their aspirations and contribute meaningfully to a brighter future for all. #Pakistan #PunjabUniversities #EducationForAll #InnovationInEducation

In a significant move to strengthen academic ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, Dhaka University (DU) has lifted its ban on admitting Pakistani students. The decision, made during a syndicate meeting on November 13 and confirmed by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Sayma Haque Bidisha, paves the way for Pakistani students to enroll at DU. This step also encourages Bangladeshi students to explore higher education opportunities in Pakistan. University officials believe this policy change will foster greater collaboration in education, culture, and other areas. Prof Bidisha emphasized the importance of academic exchanges, despite past political tensions, in fostering international academic cooperation. #UpdatesByROW #Updates2024 #PakistanBangladeshRelations #AcademicCollaboration #DhakaUniversity #HigherEducation

The National Education Policy (NEP) of July 2020 has spotlighted India's #highereducation sector, prompting extensive reforms. This has led to a surge in interest for Transnational Education (#tne ) between #UK and #indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). In September 2023, the largest-ever delegation of UK Vice Chancellors visited India to explore and solidify TNE opportunities, marking a significant step in the collaboration between the two nations in the education sector. While universities have welcomed these encouraging policy developments, they recognise that the rules are new and that it’s a learning process for all stakeholders when it comes to implementation and establishing models of engagement. Although several reports have been published recently on TNE in the UK-India corridor, we felt that there was a need for a best practice. Considering this need, we are very happy to announce that UKIBC has launched the UK INDIA Transnational Education: Pathway to Success report. The Report highlights: 👉 Building understanding of the UK-India TNE Context 👉Understanding pathways to success 👉Successful TNE Case studies If you think this report will benefit your Industry and want to know more, contact Tushar Chaudhary, Tara Panjwani or email us at enquiries@ukibc.com

I recently attended an insightful talk by Prof. Angela Little on her book 'Development, Education, and Learning in Sri Lanka', hosted by CEID at IOE, UCL. The session explored Sri Lanka’s educational evolution, focusing on social egalitarianism, assessments, social and historical trends and their impact on employment and politics. A key takeaway was Prof. Little’s critical perspective: while education enhances job performance, it doesn’t create jobs. This highlights the need to address broader societal and economic issues when reforming education. Her conclusion? Education is a powerful force for change, but its potential is realised only with systemic shifts in economic, political and social realms—a reminder to take a holistic view of development. #Education #Development #ComparativeEducation #SriLanka #InclusiveEducation #SocialChange #AngelaLittle #CEID #UCL
