Meta's Game-Changing AR: What's New from the Quest 3 at Connect 2024 I never miss the Meta Connect conferences as each one is always a reminder of the excitement of new announcements. This time, however, has been very special. The just-waited-for Meta Quest 3 headset was presented with groundbreaking AR leaps. As a tech freak, I couldn't wait to dig deeper into the details and share my thoughts on this game-changing device. The Meta Quest 3's design is slim, and it weighs light, making it a very comfortable device to wear for long hours. What ties all these internal hardware together is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ chipset with 12GB of RAM to deliver seamless performance and interaction both in virtual reality and augmented reality[1]. Advanced AR is one of the more impressive features that stands out on Quest 3. A clear view into the real world is presented through headset cameras, incorporating high-resolution colour passthrough capabilities; it can then be effortlessly manipulated to include digital elements without interfering with its natural surroundings it. This unlocks many possibilities in gaming, entertainment, and even more practical uses, like virtual workspaces. However, the Quest 3 isn't only about AR; it also delivers an immersive VR experience. The OLED displays, with a 1920 x 1920 per eye resolution, produce clear pictures and more realistic virtual environments. Improved field of view, along with the reduction in motion blur, provides the full effect of the experience 1. Accessibility and inclusivity are the names of the game for the Quest 3. The dial-based adjustment of interpupillary distance (IPD) is a new function of the device, making it much easier to get a fit right for everyone using it. This, in turn, makes the experience better for as many people as possible. As one of the earliest adopters of this type of VR and AR technology, I'm excited to see what Meta has come up with in Quest 3. With this kind of technology, the company continues to push beyond the imaginable when it comes to immersive experiences. Its specs are great and innovative features make me believe that Quest 3 will revolutionize how people have always interacted with digital content. What is reality? It's defined as "the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them." But this definition is starting to change with the introduction of immersive technologies, and the boundaries of what we consider "reality" are shifting daily. I just wrapped up an incredible session on these technologies, and I have to say, the possibilities are mind-blowing! So, I thought I’d share a bit about what I learned. Let’s start with Augmented Reality (AR). AR enhances the real world by adding digital elements to it. You’ve probably already interacted with it—maybe through those fun filters on social media or apps that let you preview furniture in your living room. But AR is more than entertainment. It’s revolutionizing retail by letting customers try on products virtually and changing healthcare by helping doctors visualize complex surgeries before they begin. Next, we have Virtual Reality (VR), which takes things a step further. While AR overlays the real world, VR transports you to an entirely digital space. With a headset, you’re fully immersed in a new environment—whether that’s for gaming, training, or even tourism. VR is already being used to train professionals in fields like aviation and manufacturing, allowing them to practice in high-risk environments without any danger. It’s an exciting tool for education and experience-building. Then there’s Mixed Reality (MR), which blends AR and VR. With MR, digital objects interact with the physical world in real-time. Imagine a designer wearing a headset, manipulating a 3D model of a product in midair, while still interacting with the physical workspace around them. This tech is transforming industries like product design, architecture, and education, enabling professionals to visualize and test ideas before committing to physical production. Finally, there’s Extended Reality (XR), the most advanced form of immersive technology. XR is a combination of AR, VR, and MR, creating an all-encompassing experience. Imagine attending virtual meetings where digital elements interact seamlessly with the physical world, or shopping in a fully immersive digital mall from the comfort of your home. The potential of XR for businesses is enormous, from revolutionizing customer experiences to enabling remote collaboration on a whole new level. The picture I used below falls under which category? #AI #Reality
