Research continues to uncover the connections between our nation's chronic pain epidemic and mental health crisis. In fact, adults living with chronic pain are approximately 5x more likely to have untreated symptoms of anxiety or depression compared to those not living with chronic pain. A University of Arizona Health Sciences study published in the journal PAIN notes that improving outcomes for people with chronic pain will include connecting more people to mental healthcare. This underscores the critical need to address the psychological aspects of pain as part of a whole-person approach.
