University of Waterloo - School of Accounting and Finance’s Post

In November, the University of Waterloo hosted the inaugural "Be the Future" conference, bringing together high school students from across Ontario to explore the transformative power of sustainability in business. 💼🌱 "Sustainability used to be sidelined—something managed in a back corner. Now, it's part of the core," shared Ravinder Gill, Managing Director of Sustainable Finance at RBC. Organized by the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF), the University of Waterloo Faculty of Environment, and Ontario DECA, the event sparked conversations about integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices into industries for lasting impact. Through panels and workshops, attendees discovered how sustainability is reshaping the financial industry and inspiring the next generation of leaders to prioritize people, profits, and the planet. SAF’s Sustainability and Financial Management (SFM) program, the only one of its kind in Canada, equips students with the skills to navigate and lead in this evolving landscape, bridging the gap between sustainability and finance. We are proud to be partners for this important event and the SFM degree. Business and sustainability truly are the #futureofbusiness.
