The 1st of may and its iconic sprig of lily of the valley is a good symbol to remind that our economies need nature🌿🌳🐝 💦 The 🇪🇺European Central Bank reported last year that in the € zone, 3 companies out of 4 were highly dependent on at least one ecosystem service. Claiming for a business as usual destroying nature is a short-term message that does not prepare for the future nor help companies manage their biodiversity related financial risks ! We need to invest in nature ($4 trillion financial gap globally until 2050 says UNEP/ €20billion euros per year says the 2030 EU Biodiversity strategy) and garden wisely 🦉 #biodiversityprotection #naturebasedsolutions #businessfornature

Investing in Nature: The Next Big Opportunity? 🌍💰 Our planet's natural resources hold a staggering $125 trillion in value, yet current nature markets capture only a fraction of this worth. Despite contributing significantly to the economy (approximately 4.5% of global GDP), this vital sector receives only 0.2% of global investment. This neglect comes at a cost – a recent IPCC report reveals that 21% of global greenhouse gas emissions stem from activities from land use changes. By 2050, if we don't change course, we'll need the equivalent of three planets to sustain our current lifestyle. (IPE-Gresham House, 2024). However, there's hope. New regulations and frameworks are placing a value on nature, making it possible to generate financial returns by investing in its conservation and restoration. As economies rebound and the need for nature-based solutions becomes undeniable, natural capital's inclusion in investor portfolios will be a fundamental shift. #ClimateForest #NatureBasedSolutions #NbS #ClimateAction #ForestConservation #Deforestation #Sustainability #AvoidReduceCompensate #NaturalCapital

As airlines face increasing environmental challenges, integrating sustainability into its operations is more important than ever. My Insights from the World Economic Forum article guide us to: 1. Embrace green technologies and sustainable aviation fuels. Implement fuel-efficient aircraft and explore sustainable aviation fuels to lower carbon emissions. 2. Invest in carbon offset and biodiversity preservation programs that support reforestation or conservation projects. 3. Foster community collaboration for impactful sustainability initiatives. Collaborate with local communities and stakeholders to create sustainability initiatives that address regional environmental concerns. Further, partner with suppliers who share a commitment to sustainability. Together, we can achieve our business objectives while making strides toward a greener future.

#PrimoDeepDives 💧 Investing in the #FutureofWater, a Critical Opportunity 💧 Water is not just a resource; it's life. Yet, our world is on the brink of a #watercrisis. In 2021, climate tech investment in Europe hit an impressive $53 billion. Yet, shockingly, less than 1%—just $455 million—was directed towards #watertech (TNW). 📊 The statistics are sobering: 📌 By 2040, global #waterdemand is projected to exceed #supply by 40% (United Nations). 📌 2.2 billion people currently lack access to safely managed drinking water services (World Health Organization). It’s clear that water #conservation and #infrastructure modernization can no longer be sidelined. Entrepreneurs and #investors have to step up and recognize the urgent need for innovative solutions to protect this vital resource. Governments are moving in the right direction, with #stricterregulations and incentives, but solving this problem requires innovative technologies and infrastructure. With a huge estimated #fundinggap for water infrastructure in terms of investment required ranging from $6.7 trillion by 2030 to $22.6 trillion by 2050 (Financial Times) investors play a vital role in driving change. 💡 Here some of the most promising Emerging Opportunities in Water Tech that are re-shaping the future of #watersustainability: #Digitalwater solutions to monitor and manage usage #Precisionirrigation to reduce agricultural water waste #Advancedwatertreatmentandrecycling to reclaim vital resources #Desalination for turning seawater into drinking water #Atmosphericwater generation to harvest moisture from the air The time to act is now. Backing companies that tackle water loss and inefficiency with cutting-edge hardware and software isn’t just #smartinvesting —it’s an investment in the future of our planet 🌟 To know more, stay tuned for the final release of the first issue of #PrimoInsights: "Green Horizon - Unveiling Emerging Trends in Climate Tech" 🌏 And check out the work of #PrimoClimate here: https://lnkd.in/dWdyjRu6

I’m thrilled to share that the Net Zero Vulnerability Index has just been published! This report examines how different regions are vulnerable to the economic restructuring required to meet net zero goals, using a methodology I developed to assess local economic complexity, resilience, and reliance on at-risk sectors. Key Insights -20 Local Authorities are identified as particularly vulnerable, concentrated in old industrial areas. -Green industrial clusters (like Humber, West Midlands, and Tees Valley) are attracting new investment, but coastal and rural areas often fall outside these clusters, leaving them reliant on low-pay or precarious work. Policy Implications: -Support for old industrial towns is critical for building resilience. -Devolution offers a path to empower communities through locally tailored solutions. -Coastal and rural vulnerabilities need further investigation and targeted strategies. A huge thank you to collaborators and co-authors Ed Atkins, Sean Fox, and Cait Robinson. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this work - feel free to share your feedback, and please help spread the word by sharing this post! The report is available via PolicyBristol [https://lnkd.in/eiyffdh8], and an interactive map is available on the accompanying website [https://lnkd.in/evb9s7jF]. #NetZero #ClimateAction #PolicyResearch #EconomicComplexity

Rural women are on the frontlines of climate change but are also key to building resilient communities. Their livelihoods can be transformed by providing access to Economic Empowerment, Climate-Smart Agriculture, clean energy solutions like biogas and solar power, sustainable water management, and financial literacy. With the right tools and resources, rural women can adapt to climate challenges, improve food security, reduce environmental impact, and lead their communities toward sustainable development. Empowering them is not just an option—it’s essential for creating a more resilient and equitable future. #ruralwomen #economicempowerment #climatesmartagriculture #ruralwomenright #climatechange

📚 Whether you are new to just transition or experienced in the field, this #evidencereview on just transition interventions is certainly worth a read! A new evidence review by the International Labour Organization, Independent Evaluation Unit, Green Climate Fund, and Agulhas Applied Knowledge explores the mechanisms, enablers and barriers to successful energy transition across all sectors. Findings are based on a study of 99 interventions contributing towards a just transition in a wide range of national, regional and community settings across 45 countries, with learning intended to support policymakers, funders, programme designers and implementers alike. Policy Watch: Countries connect the dots between climate and health, but will finance follow? Jess Beagley, policy lead at the Global Climate and Health Alliance, would like to see an onus on funders of big projects to have criteria stipulating that applications should include multiple sectors. “If it's an intervention in the energy sector, they should show that there is energy expertise and health expertise, or for a nutrition intervention, then again, from agriculture and health to make sure that those different players or ministries are actually talking to each other and decisions are going to be made in a way that offers maximum benefit.” https://lnkd.in/dH5FzHXV #climatefinance
