🚚 Kenworth SuperTruck-2: Revolutionizing Efficiency and Aerodynamics
🌟 Kenworth recently unveiled its SuperTruck-2, a remarkable demonstrator vehicle that challenges conventional design norms. Developed over six years in collaboration with the Department of Energy (DOE), this cutting-edge truck combines innovation, fuel efficiency, and sustainability. Let’s dive into the details!
🔍 Key Features:
PACCAR MX-11 Engine:
The heart of SuperTruck-2 is the PACCAR MX-11 engine with 48-volt Electric Generator, creating a mild hybrid system. This 10.8 L diesel powerhouse delivers up to 445 HP and an impressive 1,700 LB.-FT. of torque at just 900 RPM. But here’s the twist: SuperTruck-2 proves that low power and low torque can still achieve remarkable performance.
Fuel Efficiency: With a fuel economy of up to 12.8 miles per gallon (mpg), SuperTruck-2 sets a new standard. Imagine the impact on long-haul transportation when trucks can go farther on each gallon of fuel!
🌬️ Aerodynamics Redefined:
Kenworth started from scratch, designing an ideal aerodynamic shape for SuperTruck-2. The result? A sleek, wind-slicing profile that minimizes drag.
Single System Approach: Unlike traditional tractor-trailers, SuperTruck-2 integrates the tractor and trailer as a single system. This holistic design optimizes airflow from the bumper to the trailer’s end.
Mirrorless Cab: Say goodbye to bulky side mirrors! SuperTruck-2 uses smaller extensions and cameras, reducing drag and enhancing visibility.
🛋️ Central Seating and Tesla’s Influence:
SuperTruck-2 features central seating for the driver, creating a more ergonomic and efficient workspace.
And here’s where Tesla’s contribution comes in: Remember the Tesla Semi? Its streamlined design emphasized aerodynamics, and others are taking note. SuperTruck-2 continues this trend, pushing the limits of what’s possible.
📈 Performance Metrics:
Freight Efficiency: SuperTruck-2 surpasses expectations, improving efficiency by up to 136% compared to the 2009 Kenworth T660.
Average Mileage: At an average of 12 mpg, SuperTruck-2 outperforms most heavy trucks on the road today.
Engine Efficiency: A record-breaking 55.7% engine efficiency—proof that innovation pays off.
🌎 Impact and Future: SuperTruck-2 isn’t just a prototype; it’s a test bed for future technologies. As we move toward sustainable transportation, Kenworth’s SuperTruck-2 leads the way. Keep an eye out for more game-changing developments!

This is a must read article for truck owners and small fleet operators.
Increasing efficiency leads to lower fuel consumption, reduced maintenance costs, and higher productivity. Cutting costs is crucial for staying competitive, boosting profits, and ensuring long-term market sustainability.
Forward only ...
I was listening to one radio station program this morning ...
The majority of commercial aeroplanes are designed to go forward only, there's no reverse gear. Since they can't always land or park in positions to go forward afterwards, push-back tractors are used to reposition them so they can do what they're designed to do - go forward.
I also believe human beings are designed to go forward only. But alas, as humans we're far from perfect! So from time to time we err, and that's normal. The challenge is how quickly are we repositioned so we can keep going forward, as we should?
And most importantly, who/what is your push-back tractor?

𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 - HAV Group’s ship design business has today signed a contract to design and develop four newbuild, autonomous zero-emission ferries that will operate the Lavik-Oppedal crossing on the northwest coast of Norway.
The ship design is based on a future-oriented operating concept that ferry operator Fjord1 AS has developed together with HAV Design AS.
“For a group that prides itself on being an enabler of green transition at sea, this contract is obviously a perfect strategic fit for us. We are still at the early adopter stage of autonomous sailing capabilities and automation of vessel functions, so this market is expected to grow considerably in the coming years and decades. This contract puts us in pole position to capitalize on this market growth,” says Gunnar Larsen, CEO of HAV Group ASA.

In 1951, William Albee revolutionized off-road transportation by inventing the Rolligon tire, a remarkable low-pressure, high-flexibility tire inspired by Inuit ingenuity. Albee's invention was born from his observations in 1935 while living in an Eskimo village in Alaska, where he witnessed fishermen using inflated seal skins to effortlessly move heavy boats across muddy terrain.
The Rolligon tire is characterized by its extremely low air pressure (as low as 5 PSI compared to 30-35 PSI in typical car tires) and large surface area. These features allow the tire to deform easily, distributing the vehicle's weight over a broader area and effectively "absorbing" obstacles rather than rolling over them
One of the most striking demonstrations of the Rolligon's capabilities was its ability to drive over a person without causing injury. In fact, Albee himself and his wife Ruth were famously photographed being run over by Rolligon-equipped vehicles, emerging unscathed. According to Life magazine, the sensation was described as "about the same as a vigorous massage"
Albee founded the Albee Rolligon Company to produce vehicles fitted with these innovative tires. The technology found particular success in challenging terrains, especially in Alaska's oil fields, where Rolligon-equipped vehicles could traverse the delicate tundra without causing damage.
Today, while not as widely known, Rolligon technology continues to be used in specialized off-road and oil field applications, particularly in Alaska's North Slope, where its unique capabilities remain unmatched for navigating the region's challenging permafrost terrain
