The EEA report on 'Urban adaptation in Europe' underscores the pressing necessity to adapt European cities to climate change and offers a comprehensive overview of the measures they are undertaking. It serves as a valuable resource for informing climate adaptation policies across Europe, spanning from the EU to the municipal level. According to the report, european cities are addressing climate change through a diverse array of effective measures, including urban planning and building regulations. Moreover, cities are progressively embracing nature-based solutions, which feature in 91% of the local adaptation plans analyzed in the report. These solutions prove effective for cooling and water retention in cities while offering additional benefits such as recreational space and pollution reduction. 🚨 Excited to share the New Blog Post: "City Climate Action: Accelerating National Commitments" 🚨 As urban population continue to rise, cities are at the forefront of climate action, driving progress where it's needed the most. 🌍 With more than half of the global population already living in cities, and that number set to grow, it's crucial for cities to localize national climate goals to meet the scale of this challenge. In our latest blog, we explore why localizing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) is essential for attaining climate goals. https://lnkd.in/g2vv5Fcg #CityClimateAction #SustainableCities #UrbanGrowth #LocalizeNDCs #ClimateLeadership #NetZero #GreenCities #ClimateActionNow #UrbanAct

"In a world where unpredictability is the new normal, urban resilience is no longer optional; it is essential." In her essay, Shruti Narayan, Managing Director of Regions and Mayoral Engagement and Regional Director, South and West Asia, C40 showcased the urgent need for climate adaptation and urban resilience to mitigate the severe impacts of climate change, emphasizing that proactive investment and planning are essential for sustainable and thriving cities in an increasingly unpredictable world. Investing in urban resilience isn't just about the environment—it's a smart economic move, she states, "Unmitigated disasters and the impacts of climate extremes are costly for cities, and while adaptation requires significant investment, it is far less expensive than the costs associated with disaster relief and recovery."
