Duplicate transactions in GA4 can ruin your reports. ➤ Revisiting receipt pages triggers duplicate events. We’ve all faced it. We know many analysts struggle with the same problem. Perhaps it’s the price of complex tracking setups. But you can stop these duplicate events using GTM: ➤ Set a cookie when a transaction occurs and save the transaction ID in it. ➤ Use GTM to block duplicate purchase tags using a blocking trigger based on that cookie. ➤ Apply this method to conversion tags of other marketing platforms as well. And most importantly: ➤ Clean data means accurate insights. ➤ Duplicate events happen, but this simple fix prevents them. 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐩? Follow Upsight Digital for more tips.

GA4 event parameters enhance analytics by offering deep insights into customer behaviors through added context to actions such as page views or transactions. Although integrating these parameters via GTM in the GA4 config tag is easy and affects all subsequent events, this approach can lead to inaccuracies if parameter values are not immediately available or if they change, as once they're set in the config, they won't be reevaluated. For this reason using the newish event settings variables is recommended, as it allows for the re-evaluation of values with each new event, while still keeping your implementation manageable. 💡 You can now compare your stats against benchmarked competitors in GA4! Finally, Analytics have their own little auction insights feature.. A pretty big deal for those who hate the inaccuracies of some third party data scraping tools out there. This will allow you to compare a ton of metrics against a benchmarked set, brokem down by industry. Sessions, sessions per user, and even potentially goal specific data. You'll see an overall trendline as well as the median & 25th/75th percentiles within the data set. Typically, benchmark data is indexed so as to protect it however it looks like you'll see true figures. 🧩 Make sure you head over to your admin section, then accounting settings and enable 'Modeling contributions & business insights'. Screengrabs below 👇 As shared on Search Engine Land, this looks like it's been spotted on USA accounts. But only a matter of time before we see some activity in the UK. Let me know if you spot it across any of your accounts! Can-Do Digital Marketing

🚀 Understanding and Fixing Duplicate Events in GA4 Duplicate events in Google Analytics 4 (GA4) can be a common headache, but understanding the reasons behind them can help in effectively resolving the issue. Here are some common causes and solutions: 🔍 Why Do Duplicate Events Occur in GA4? ✅ Multiple Tags Triggering: Multiple tags or triggers might be firing the same event multiple times due to incorrect configurations or overlapping triggers. ✅ Event Parameters Misconfiguration: Incorrectly set event parameters can lead to the same event being recorded more than once, especially when custom events are involved. ✅ Page Reloads and Redirects: Events set to fire on page load can be triggered again if the page reloads or redirects. ✅ User Interactions: User interactions, like multiple clicks, can cause duplicate events if not properly controlled. ✅ Implementation Errors: Mistakes in the implementation, such as placing the same tag in multiple locations, can lead to duplicate event tracking. 🔧 How to Fix It? ✅ Review Tag Configuration: Double-check tag settings and triggers in Google Tag Manager to ensure no overlaps or misconfiguration. ✅ Use Filters and Modifiers: Implement filters and modifiers to control when events are fired, reducing unintended duplicates. ✅ Monitor and Test: Regularly monitor event data and thoroughly test tags. Tools like GA4 DebugView can be very helpful. ✅ Consult Documentation: Follow GA4 documentation for best practices and implementation guidelines. ✅ Duplicate events can distort data and lead to inaccurate insights. By understanding and addressing these issues, you can ensure your GA4 setup is accurate and reliable. #WebAnalytics #GA4 #GoogleAnalytics #DigitalMarketing #DataAccuracy #GTM #MarketingTech

GA4 gives you the opportunity to monitor anomalies and get notified. I often mention monitoring and not every company needs complex solutions. In the majority of cases, something like GA4 does help you… 👉 Traffic problems, e.g. a bot skewing your data or potential threats 👉 Abnormal sales values, e.g. too low, maybe something broke? 👉 Unusual number of key events, e.g. conversions below the usual threshold Once you set it up, you need to define what you can do about these issues. 💡 Which action can I pair up if our sales suddenly drop? Go back to the drawing board, think about the possible causes and prepare a plan of action. If something breaks, you need to know what to fix (possibly be also timely). To activate this option, Reports > Reports Snapshot > Go to the Insights Tab (View all insights) and then Create. 📥 Check my newsletter linked in my bio for Analytics + SEO content!
