Wake Up Everybody “I am utterly disgusted by University of Florida decision and the precedent that it sets. Without the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion department, the job falls to the Office of the Provost, who already has their hands full, to raise money for the university and continue to advance the academic studies and athletic programs. We cannot continue to believe and trust that a team of leaders all made up of the same background will make the right decision when it comes to equality and diversity. History has already proven that is not the case. Instead of showing courage and leadership, we continue to fail based on systemic issues and with this decision, UFlorida has conformed to the political pressures of today’s time, To the MANY, minority athletes at UF, please be aware and vocal about the decision by the University who is now closing the doors on other minorities without any oversight. And to those who think it’s not your problem and stay on the side lines and say nothing, you are complicit in supporting systemic issues.” -Emmit Smith, former NFL player Pro Football Hall of Fame In 2023, the Florida football program made $93,206,919 in total revenue and paid out $60,894,176 in expenses. The program raked in a net profit of $32,312,743 for the university. 32 million dollars. Diversity, equity and inclusion are the ONLY reasons Florida athletics is able to compete in the Southeastern Conference. The ONLY reason. In a related (fantastic) story, what if all 67 Black players on the 2024 Florida football roster decided to leverage the transfer portal for playing opportunities at Florida A&M, Alabama A&M, Prairie View A&M, Bethune-Cookman, Howard, Southern and Grambling Universities. ‘Day of Absence’ wants to be reality.

Greetings Linkedin Family, The relationship between HBCU and PWI students is one of shared experiences and distinct perspectives. Both groups navigate similar challenges in higher education, but often in different cultural and institutional contexts. HBCU students benefit from a rich legacy of Black excellence and a supportive environment that celebrates their culture, history, and identity. In contrast, PWI students, while often experiencing a more diverse or predominantly white campus environment, also face unique opportunities for cross-cultural learning and engagement. Despite these differences, both groups can learn from each other’s experiences, finding common ground in their pursuit of success while recognizing the value in their distinct backgrounds. By fostering dialogue, empathy, and collaboration, we can bridge the gap between HBCUs and PWIs, empowering all students to thrive in their academic and professional journeys. - - - - One of the highlights of the Collegiate 100 conference was serving as a panelist where I had the opportunity to discuss the dynamic and sometimes complex relationship between HBCU and PWI students. We dove into the unique experiences, strengths, and challenges that both groups face, and how we can foster greater unity and understanding in our academic and professional journeys.

Go to High School Go to College The "Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College" program, established in 1922, concentrates on the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education as a road to advancement. Statistics prove the value of this extra impetus in making the difference in the success of young African-American men, given that school completion is the single best predictor of future economic success. Through the Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College educational initiative, young men receive information and learn strategies that facilitate success. Alpha men provide youth participants with excellent role models to emulate.

At the National HBCU Business Deans Roundtable, we celebrate groundbreaking partnerships that propel our students into pivotal roles within their industries. Howard University's selection as the first HBCU to lead a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) with the Department of Defense marks a historic milestone. This partnership, supported by the Department of the Air Force and the Air Force Research Laboratory, underscores our commitment to fostering cutting-edge research and development. With a significant investment of $60 million over five years, this initiative not only enhances Howard's research capabilities but also strengthens its pursuit of R1 status—a testament to our academic excellence and innovation. The UARC's focus on tactical autonomy aligns with industry demands for advanced technological solutions, preparing our students to lead in fields critical to national defense and beyond. By expanding research opportunities across a consortium of HBCUs, including Bowie State University, Hampton University, and Tuskegee University among others, we aim to diversify and enrich the pipeline of scientists and engineers. As we embark on this transformative journey, ethical considerations remain paramount. Our commitment to responsible innovation in artificial intelligence ensures that our advancements uphold principles of equity, transparency, and accountability.
