To continue my mission to dispel common apprenticeship myths..... Myth 2) = "Apprenticeships are just for young people" . Nope. There is no age limit to be an apprentice. There is a minimum age of 16. But no maximum. So if your role requires someone more mature, or if you as an adult wanted to re-train, there will be an apprenticeship route for you. Yes there are indeed some financial incentives for businesses to train the Under 21s using apprenticeships, and for good reason. But that doesn't have to dissuade you as a business, or you as an individual from 'more mature' apprentices. Data from our State of the Nation 2024 report shows that a growing number of young people from lower-working-class backgrounds are enrolling in university since 2014. Whilst this is a fantastic trend for creating more equal opportunities, our Chair, Alun Francis, highlights that it's essential to expand support for young people exploring whom university may not be the best pathway and are exploring alternative pathways such as vocational training or apprenticeships.
