New Report Sheds Light on #Kidney Health Disparities Our new Disparities Report offers critical insights into patterns in #kidneyfailure across different demographic groups in England and Wales, focusing on Sex, Ethnicity, Socioeconomic status, and Age. The data, spanning 2014-2020, reveals significant disparities: higher kidney failure rates in minority ethnic groups and men, and increased risks in deprived areas. Key findings include the high prevalence of diabetes-related kidney failure in Asian and Black communities and the varying treatment rates across ages. While highlighting disparities in care and outcomes, the report doesn't assess overall system fairness. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy issued a groundbreaking report last year highlighting loneliness as a major public health problem - negatively affecting physical and mental health including with a 60% increase in premature death - and calling for action steps to tackle it. See below. Now there is additional information about populations with elevated levels of loneliness. Thanks to a new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's BRFSS survey and MMWR article we now know that transgender and bisexual populations are more likely to be lonely (about twice as likely) and therefore at risk for several other health issues. This calls for concerted action. ICF is proud to help conduct the BRFSS survey and to work to promote equity. Considering sex and age disaggregated data is crucial to advancing health and socioeconomic equities and should be the standard of practice in health research. By assessing the intersection of sex and age in clinical research studies, we increase opportunities for developing better, more appropriate, person-centred care. This is important when describing health, health care access, treatment and treatment outcomes, as well as the impact of health policies at different ages. A new IHME study in The Lancet showcases notable disparities in well-being among US individuals, based on lifespan, education, and income, from 2008 to 2021. This analysis uses the Human Development Index (HDI) to detail how well-being differs at the personal level, focusing on race, ethnicity, and sex. Despite an overall rise in average HDI across all groups until 2019, a 2020 downturn—mainly due to shorter lifespans—spotlighted enduring disparities, with the lowest well-being in American Indian and Alaska Native males, Black males, and Latino males, contrasting with the highest seen in Asian Americans and White females. http://ms.spr.ly/6046WvGUn
