Rand VS. Sartre My latest article is about the philosophy of Jean-Paul Sartre. Sartre was an important figure to my personal journey with philosophy because he was one of the main subjects when we periodically studied philosophy in my Yeshiva. In this article I present some of the key elements within the philosophy of Sartre, then explain to the best of my knowledge what is wrong with it, and then comment on why I think it’s so popular in Jewish orthodox schools. Enjoy! https://lnkd.in/dzprTCZM

Our cultural roots are in philosophy. It's time to stop teaching mythology in schools as if it is truth. Philosophers have been wearing beards for a very long time. We have to stand for our civilisation. If we don't accept our intellectual roots and establish to our youth who we are we will be in problems. We accept what we don't know. We don't pretend to know. You can practice virtue and good ethics without God. God does not have a monopoly on virtue. Believing in God does not make you virtuous or knowledgeable. We have been scientific since Aristotle. We have been republican since Plato. We have been reasoning since Socrates. We are not a civilisation that can be tricked by claims to know God. We don't accept individuals claims to be from God or to know God. We acknowledge what we don't know with pure humility. Philosophers train warriors, like Alexandra the Great. We created the gym. We created communism and the free market. The youth must not be duped for a generation longer. Statues of the philosophers that shaped our civilisation should be in every city. https://lnkd.in/eHfD-nsR

-- Seneca Seneca, often known as Seneca the Younger, was a prominent Stoic philosopher, statesman, and dramatist of Ancient Rome. Born around 4 BC in Corduba, Hispania (modern-day Spain), he was also a notable writer, with works that include tragedies and various moral essays. Seneca's philosophical writings are significant contributions to Stoic thought, particularly his moral essays and letters that address ethical issues. His works have had a lasting impact on Western philosophy and literature, influencing generations long after his time. Seneca's life, marked by political intrigue and drama, ended when he was forced to commit suicide in 65 AD due to alleged involvement in a conspiracy to assassinate Emperor Nero, a charge widely believed to be unfounded. His teachings on ethics, rationality, and virtue continue to be studied and revered for their depth and practical wisdom. Seneca's approach to Stoicism emphasized personal ethics informed by its system of logic and its views on the natural world. #inspirationalquote #motivationalquote #wisdomquotes #lifelesson #seneca

-- Epictetus Epictetus was a Greek Stoic philosopher who lived from around 50 CE to 135 CE. Born into slavery in the city of Hierapolis in Phrygia (modern-day Turkey), Epictetus was eventually freed and became one of the most influential Stoic philosophers of his time. Epictetus taught that philosophy is a way of life and that the primary goal of philosophy is to help individuals live in accordance with nature and reason. His teachings emphasize the importance of focusing on what is within one's control (one's own actions and attitudes) and accepting what is not within one's control (external events and the actions of others) with equanimity. Unlike many philosophers, Epictetus did not write down his teachings. They were recorded by his disciple Arrian in two works: the "Discourses" and the "Enchiridion" (often translated as "The Handbook"). These texts have had a profound impact on the development of Stoic thought and have been influential in both ancient and modern philosophy. Epictetus' philosophy revolves around the idea that true freedom comes from understanding the nature of reality and living in harmony with it. He believed that external events are beyond our control, and that our perceptions, judgments, and reactions are what truly matter. His teachings emphasize the importance of virtue, self-discipline, and the pursuit of wisdom. Epictetus' ideas have had a lasting influence on Western philosophy, particularly in the realm of ethics. His works continue to be studied and respected for their practical wisdom and insights into human nature. #inspirationalquote #motivationalquote #wisdomquotes #lifelesson

Why Greek Philosophers are the only Top G's! The OG thinkers! Greek philosophers - the original and still the greatest. They sought truth, wisdom, and understanding, laying the foundation for Western philosophy. From the depths of human nature to the mysteries of the universe, they explored it all. Their ideas and teachings continue to inspire, influence, and shape our world. With their groundbreaking concepts, they paved the way for centuries of intellectual inquiry and discovery. They tackled the biggest questions: What is the meaning of life? What is reality? How should we live? Their answers may have differed, but their pursuit of wisdom united them. Socrates' method of questioning, Plato's allegories of the cave and the forms, Aristotle's concept of causality and the four causes - each contribution built upon the last, creating a rich tapestry of thought. They may have lived centuries ago, but their wisdom remains timeless and unparalleled. Their influence extends far beyond the realm of philosophy, shaping art, science, politics, and ethics. They inspire us to think critically, to question assumptions, and to strive for excellence. The Greek philosophers are indeed the OG thinkers - the original and still the greatest.

FLASH BACK OF (2021/05/10) PHILOSOPHERS AND PHILOSOPHY We have many Philosophers as many ideologies, when we concentrate in Understanding all,we might at a certain point get confused, and incidentally become less philosophers ourselves. It is therefore most appropriate to understand the nature of philosophy itself, draw up position based on our Understanding while using other related or unrelated Philosophical works to stabilise our thoughts and positions.
