I have seen clinicians debate if IOLs designed to provide additional depth of focus can be offered to patients with retinal issues. Such lenses I feel are excellent choice for healthy eyes. However, there is no free lunch in optics, and the below simulated images I designed captures what happens to light rays when they go through a spherical lens versus a spherical lens additionally designed for additional depth of focus.
