🌍 December 2nd: International Day for the Abolition of Slavery Today, we come together to raise awareness and take action against the grave issue of modern slavery, which continues to rob millions of their dignity and freedom. This day marks the adoption of the 1949 UN Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others—a reminder of our collective responsibility to combat human trafficking, forced labor, child exploitation, and other forms of slavery. Every voice matters in this fight. Whether through education, advocacy, or support for organizations working to end these injustices, we all have a role to play in creating a world where freedom is a universal right. Let’s commit to building a future free of exploitation and oppression. Together, change is possible. 💪 #EndSlavery #HumanRightsMatter #InternationalDay #FreedomForAll

🕊️ International Day for the Abolition of Slavery 2024 - December 2nd 🕊️ Theme: "Eradicating contemporary forms of slavery, including trafficking in persons, sexual exploitation, the worst forms of child labour, forced marriage, and the forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict." On December 2nd, we observe the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, reaffirming our commitment to ending all forms of modern slavery. This year's theme highlights the urgent need to combat human trafficking, sexual exploitation, child labour, forced marriages, and the recruitment of children for armed conflicts. These heinous practices continue to rob millions of their dignity, freedom, and basic human rights. It is our collective responsibility to amplify awareness, strengthen laws, and provide support to survivors while addressing the root causes of modern slavery. Join #KwaraFirstLady and #AjikeCares in advocating for a world free from exploitation and forced servitude. Together, we can create a future where freedom is universal and no one is left behind. 💡 Freedom is a right, not a privilege. #InternationalDayForAbolitionOfSlavery #EradicatingSlavery #SayNoToTrafficking #SayNoToSexualExploitation #SayNoToChildLabour #SayNoForcedMarriages #KwaraFirstLady #AjikeCares

Statement on the recent racially motivated violence in Oulu Over the past week, we have been shocked to hear about the acts of violence which have recently unfolded in Oulu. It is especially concerning that the alleged assailants had an apparent racist and anti-immigrant motivation and targeted victims with an immigrant background, one of whom was a child. We stand in solidarity for the safety of all persons with immigrant background, for whom these recent events create a feeling of a worrying, hostile and threatening climate. We call upon the government to take its commitment made last year to tackle racism in society seriously. Over the past year in particular the opposite has happened - anti-immigrant attitudes have been normalized and even nodded to in acts of double-communication made by certain sitting government MPs. Such normalization emboldens extremists and therefore enables these terrible acts to take place. It is not sufficient for the government to merely point to the anti-racism communication made last year. All government parties must set a clear example that these attitudes have never been acceptable and must urgently take stronger action to prevent even further extremist violence.

Domestic violence affects various religious groups equally, per ISPU data. Muslims (13%), Jews (7%), Catholics (15%), and Protestants (17%) report that they know someone in their faith community who was the victim of violence from someone in their family. ISPU research also shows that Muslims are the most likely to report domestic violence to their faith leader. We highlight our research during this Domestic Violence Awareness Month and beyond to bring special attention to reducing silence surrounding intimate partner violence and ways to combat the issue. Pashtuns: The Most Affected Yet Misunderstood People Pashtuns have endured some of the world’s highest impacts of conflict and violence, yet they’re often wrongly labeled as aggressors. The truth is far from this stereotype. In just five years, the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) has led one of the world’s most significant peaceful protests, advocating for justice, rights, and peace (aman) for all. Pashtuns are not terrorists; they are resilient, peace-seeking people who are fighting for their rights with dignity and non-violence. Let’s change the narrative and stand with those who seek true peace. #PashtunRights #PeaceForPashtuns #PTM #JusticeAndPeace

Today, December 2nd, marks the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery. This day serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight against modern slavery and human trafficking. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), there are an estimated 40.3 million victims of modern slavery worldwide, with many more at risk. On this day, we: 1. Honor the victims and survivors of slavery. 2. Recognize the efforts of abolitionists and anti-slavery activists. 3. Renew our commitment to eradicating modern slavery and human trafficking. Let's work together to create a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. #EndSlavery #AbolitionOfSlavery #HumanRights

We all need to engage with this critical topic so that collectively we can raise awareness and make a difference. There is an abundance of resources available to read through and share on the #16DaysInWA website, though we have some tips for employers to better support their workforce. With the stats below are quite confronting, it is highly likely many of our workmates are experiencing this exact scenario, and likely in silence. If we want to see a change, action bring traction. As an employer, some great action you came make is: 1. 📣 Spread awareness Share the resources / facts / awareness of the topic, events happening with your workforce. (not just LinkedIn) This could be through a morning prestart, (in Co Connect App), safety meeting, around site. 2. ℹ️ Accessibility to information Share information on resources for how to get help, support through work, (DV leave available), any peer supporters who may be knowledgeable on this topic 3. 🚧 Reduce barriers to action: Have a spare small office for multi- use, so frontline workers can use to make private calls on lunch breaks. have a computer available with a guest login to access resources (reducing the need for time lag in forgotten passwords / lengthy phone calls on hold to IT. Its not safe for everyone to have these conversations while at home. 4. 🚨 Emergency resources. If you have FIFO workers or worker provided accommodation, and have couple rooms. Check you have an emergency back up room available, and accessibility for workers to call for help, stay somewhere else in the event of an issue on site. 5. 📲 Reporting processes. Have multiple channels for reporting, not everyone is comfortable or able to answer questions, on the fly, on a traumatic incident or situation. Especially if they are from a diverse background or other language speaking. In person reporting may also not be appropriate. Violence against women, family and domestic violence has no place in our homes, communities or workplaces. #PlayYourPart #16daysinwa #workforcetech #australianmining

In a multi-ethnic state like Nigeria, one of many marked by pervasive violence, prioritizing the adoption of nonviolent approaches will greatly reduce incidents of violent conflict, promote peace, and foster harmony among the people. Nonviolence should not just be a passive ideology but a fundamental principle and practice that should be consciously imbibed in everyday life, and in every interaction by people. #teachchildrenpeace
