If you are a female leader, read on... The confidence gap in women is real. Transforming it requires systemic changes: - in how we educate and raise young girls - in how we manage female talents in the workforce But if you're struggling with confidence today, you don't have the luxury to wait for systemic changes. It took me 20 years to master my confidence gap. Here's the 2-minute lowdown: 💪 Understand It’s Not Just You Female leaders, from interns to CXOs, routinely underestimate their capabilities. Recognise this as a common psychological pattern, not a personal flaw. 💪 Befriend your Inner Critic Lack of confidence stems from an inner critic constantly telling you that you aren’t good enough. Understand what this critic is trying to protect you from and what it's driving you towards. Often, it’s an old coping mechanism that has become a habitual pattern. 💪 Transform the Inner Critic Teach your inner critic to work for you, not against you. Ask it to take on the role of the best manager you’ve ever had. How did they motivate differently vs. others? Use these insights to reshape your inner dialogue, turning your critic into a supportive voice. "Confidence comes not from always being right, but from not fearing to be wrong." – Peter T. McIntyre How do you encourage confidence in leaders around you? #LeadershipAdvice #WomenInLeadership #ConfidenceGap #InnerCritic #LinkedInNewsAsia P.S.: This post is inspired by Singapore Minister for Communications and Information, Josephine Teo, recently sharing her experience with a team member lacking confidence to take on a chairperson role, despite being fully capable. Supporting Women in Leadership: Bridging the Confidence Gap Women sometimes hesitate to take on leadership roles, not because of a lack of competence but due to a lack of self-assurance. Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information, Josephine Teo, has observed this firsthand. In the video below, she shares an example of wanting to nominate a capable female leader for a chairperson role, but the nominee was concerned about whether she had the support of others. She goes on to share how we can address the confidence gap among women. ❓In the pursuit of gender equity, empowering women to build confidence and assert themselves is essential for creating a diverse and inclusive work environment. How else can we support this? Share your thoughts in the comments. 🎞️ Adrian Tay ▶Watch LinkedIn APAC MD Feon Ang 洪雍华's full interview with Mrs Josephine Teo here: https://lnkd.in/gqJeRGkG #linkedinvideo #leadership #gender #dei Ministry of Communications and Information
