March 8th, marks #InternationalWomensDay, a day dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women worldwide while advocating for a #genderequal future. 🌍 Driving Change: The Development of Gender Balance in Boards in the EU I had the privilege of presenting at Styrelsekraft - Women on Boards event 4th Nov 2024 hosted by Regeringskansliet, the outlook on the development of gender equality in boards across Europe. Using insights from the EU Commission and the European Institute of Gender Equality, I highlighted both progress and challenges: ✅ Women now make up an average of 33% of board members in listed companies across the EU. ✅ Eight countries have introduced binding gender quotas – and they’re yielding results. ➡️ Yet, challenges persist: only 6% of CEO positions and 16% of CFO positions are held by women. ➡️ Boards remain largely homogeneous in terms of age and nationality, limiting the true potential of diversity. The adoption of Directive (EU) 2022/2381 marks a significant step forward, aiming for more even gender distribution and transparent, merit-based appointments in boardrooms.
