Last weekend, Gabby Costigan MBE and I secured a major multilateral win in Tokyo with global heads of industry, C-suite and some of the most influential business minds coming together to recognise the vital role businesses must play in advancing gender equality. Members of the APEC - Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Business Advisory Council (ABAC) have fully endorsed our proposal to strengthen gender equality efforts across the region. We can now look forward to a productive collaboration between business leaders and the APEC Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy to develop a standardised framework for companies throughout Asia-Pacific to measure, report, and address gender pay gaps. Additionally, leaders have committed to leveraging their significant purchasing power to invest in female founders and women-owned companies. I am also thrilled that business leaders endorsed our framework for the development gender equality and structural reform principles across APEC. We will carry this endorsement into our negotiations at APEC Perú 2024 this week to establish a comprehensive and unified approach to tackling gender disparities but also drive systemic changes that promote equal opportunities and fair treatment across all economic sectors. This pivotal support will facilitate the creation of policies and practices that encourage inclusive growth, enhance women's economic empowerment, and integrate gender equality as a fundamental aspect of economic and social development throughout the APEC region. These milestones will generate significant positive ripple effects for women and economies across the region, demonstrating the progress that can be achieved when corporations commit to responsible and deliberate actions toward gender equality. I am excited to support all the business leaders involved in these transformative collaborations for women, girls, and all people in the Asia-Pacific region. #GenderEquality #BusinessLeadership #APEC #EconomicEmpowerment #DiversityAndInclusion #WomenInBusiness #ABAC #PPWE The Australian APEC Study Centre (AASC) APEC Perú 2024

Uzbekistan has made progress in gender equality, rising from 103rd in 2022 to 52nd place in the 2024 Gender Equality and Governance Index (GEGI). The index, which evaluates gender equality across 158 countries, provides insights into the successes and challenges women face globally. Kazakhstan ranks 76th in 2024 with a score of 66.5, showing a steady improvement from 84th place in 2022. Kyrgyzstan has seen a slight decline, falling from 91st to 99th place with a score of 61.6, a drop of 8 positions. Tajikistan also made strides, rising from 118th to 103rd place with a score of 61.1, improving by 15 positions. Afghanistan continues to face severe challenges, maintaining its position at the bottom of the index in 158th place with a score of 19.2. Globally, countries like Belgium, Italy, Portugal, and Spain continue to lead the index, reflecting the benefits of democratic governance in advancing gender equality. Meanwhile, regions such as the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia show slower progress. As the world confronts numerous global challenges, from climate change to rising geopolitical tensions, empowering women remains one of the most powerful tools for ensuring sustainable development and peace. The 2024 GEGI stresses the importance of women's involvement in environmental policies, noting that 80% of those displaced by climate change are women. While men still dominate most climate change delegations, women have taken the lead in countries such as Australia, Mexico, and Thailand. https://lnkd.in/dhuNhyz8

Transparency, data, and accountability are the key pillars to a successful DE&I strategy as G7 leaders reaffirm their commitment to eliminating the gender pay gap. We welcome the latest announcement from the leaders of the seven Member States as well as the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission representing the European Union – and we join them in recognizing that advancing and accelerating the rate of improvement remains the priority. As Simona Scarpaleggia succinctly put it: “To demonstrate commitment you have to mean it, you have to do it, you have to measure it and then you have to talk about it!” With the value-driving business case for DE&I long-since proven, organizations need to provide tangible, visible proofs that they are making progress in closing the equity gap. Something EDGE Empower is here to support you on this important journey. 🌍 Women’s Leadership: Global Challenges and Ukraine’s Opportunity for Inclusive Growth 🌍 The 2024 Women in the Workplace McKinsey report reveals encouraging progress in women’s corporate representation, with a significant rise in the C-suite. However, challenges like the "broken rung" at the manager level persist, keeping gender equality out of reach. https://lnkd.in/e-ZuxVsq As Ukraine rebuilds post-conflict, we face a pivotal moment to address these global issues locally. By ensuring women’s full participation in leadership, we can foster a more innovative, resilient economy. Ukraine’s recovery offers a unique chance to reshape corporate structures, boost gender equality, and close the leadership gap. The report highlights that companies focusing on mentorship, inclusive policies, and flexible work environments have seen the most success in retaining and promoting women. These are lessons Ukraine’s business community can apply to accelerate both recovery and gender equity. We will talk about it during the #Human #Capital panel discussion at #Resilient #Leadership Forum "Women Leaders for U" organized by Women Leaders For Ukraine. ❓How does women's representation on corporate boards influence firm innovation? 📣 Very happy to share that my bachelor thesis has been published in Junior Management Science as one of the top theses in management and business! 📊 𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗔 An analysis of 60 French firms shows that, despite increased female board representation, no significant direct link to innovation performance was identified. This contrasts with positive findings from 105 German firms. 💡 𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦 • Female board representation can enhance firm innovation by contributing to knowledge differentiation and leadership practices, while fostering an inclusive corporate culture that promotes diverse talent pipelines. • The impact of gender-diverse boards on firm innovation is not universal but depends on organizational factors and context-specific dynamics. • Cross-country differences in institutional frameworks and cultural norms towards gender equality mediate the relationship between board diversity and firm innovation. 🌟 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗨𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 Organizations should combine diverse leadership teams with supportive innovation-oriented environments and policies, ensuring diversity drives strategic value beyond representation. 🎯 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗬 Gender diversity is more than a metric – it is a dynamic driver for innovation that requires contextual understanding, systemic integration, and sustainable commitment at ALL levels. #strategicleadership #firminnovation #femalerepresentation #genderdiversity #corporateboards
