The UN has issued a crucial 🚨 call to action 🚨 in response to the escalating threat of lethal climate-related heat, focusing on four critical areas: 💝 Care for the most vulnerable; 👷♀️ Protection of workers through rights-based occupational safety and health measures 🧬 Boosting the resilience of economies using data & science; and 🌡️ Limiting temperature rise to 1.5°C Being amidst this scale and urgency of the global climate crisis demands an augmented effort in promoting climate justice to tackle the gendered consequences of climate change and the drivers causing them. CARE contributes to this by global advocacy efforts amplifying key voices of local vulnerable communities we work with through context-based programming in locally-led adaptation and resilience, ecosystems and nature-based solutions, sustainable livelihoods, #genderequality, and #disasterrisk and #humanitarianaction. The #ClimateCrisis hits the most vulnerable hardest, making it crucial to address these issues to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Let's stay informed and support global efforts for a more sustainable and equitable future. #SustainableDevelopment #NoPoverty #UNEP #ClimateAction #SDGs
The #ClimateCrisis weighs most heavily on the vulnerable, including people with low incomes, women, and Indigenous peoples. Unless humanity reverses course on the environmental havoc it is causing, it will be impossible to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. From 8 to 17 July, United Nations Member States are meeting in New York for the High-Level Political Forum which looks at the latest progress on multiple goals, including the 5 featured here. The Critical Link Between Health and Environment: Why It Matters 💡 The Critical Link Between Health and Environment: Why It Matters 💡 In today's rapidly changing world, the health of our communities and the environment are more interconnected than ever. At Sustainable Health and Environment (SHE), we believe in creating a future where these two vital aspects work harmoniously to promote overall well-being. Main Content: Environmental factors such as air quality, water pollution, and climate change directly impact public health. Poor air quality can lead to respiratory diseases, contaminated water can cause various infections, and climate change can increase the spread of infectious diseases. By addressing these environmental issues, we can significantly improve public health outcomes. SHE is dedicated to bridging the gap between public health and environmental sustainability. We aim to foster resilient, healthy communities through our innovative programs and community-focused initiatives. Join us in our mission to create a healthier, more sustainable world for everyone. Climate change is not just an environmental issue—it's a critical health equity challenge. As temperatures rise and extreme weather events become more frequent, marginalized communities bear the brunt of these impacts. We must recognize that strengthening health systems and investing in our health workforce are key adaptations to climate change. Key Points to Consider: - Vulnerable Populations: Marginalized communities often have less access to resources and support during climate-related crises. - Health Systems Strengthening: Investing in resilient health systems is essential to protect those most affected. - Collaborative Solutions: Businesses and communities can co-create innovative solutions that address both climate change and health equity. - Policy Advocacy: Health equity should be at the forefront of climate change negotiations and policies. Together, we can build resilience, protect vulnerable populations, and create a more equitable and sustainable future. Let’s work collectively to address climate change while prioritizing health equity for all. #ClimateAction #HealthEquity #SustainableFuture #PublicHealth

Women and girls disproportionately face the health impacts of climate change, yet their needs are too often overlooked in climate policy and financing. To advance equitable outcomes, climate responses must prioritize investments in women’s and girls’ health and livelihoods. At #COP29, join Population Services International, MSI Reproductive Choices, and the Margaret Pyke Trust for a side event, Funding at the Intersection of Climate and Health: Unlocking Investments for Women and Girls. This high-level session will present practical examples of government commitments, cross-sectoral policies, and financing mechanisms that integrate health and gender into climate adaptation and resilience strategies, ensuring no woman or girl is left behind. 📅 Date: Friday, November 15, 2024 🕒 Time: 16:45 - 18:15 📍 Location: Side Event 8 (Official Blue Zone) #ClimateChange #HealthSystems #GlobalHealth #ClimateHealth #HealthEquity #SustainableHealth #PublicHealth

Nearly half of the global population already live in areas highly vulnerable to climate change. We need immediate action to help them become more resilient – or we face dire consequences. In that context, the latest Action Report from the Collective MindS Climate x Health Council is an important milestone. The report provides an actionable framework to promote flexible and accessible financing for locally led adaptations that protect health, and I urge you to read it. #UNGAxRF #ClimateFinance
We need immediate action to help those highly vulnerable to climate change to become more resilient – or we face dire consequences. Not only is climate and health adaptation seriously underfunded, but the funding that is available is also largely inaccessible to those most at risk. That is why we have launched our latest Action Report from the Collective MindS Climate x Health Council, ‘From Risk to Resilience: Unlocking Climate and Health Finance for Local Health Adaptation’, in partnership with the Africa-Europe Foundation 🤝 The report identifies mechanisms to ensure financing for climate adaptation reaches communities most in need, serving as a blueprint for action for world leaders to turbocharge sustainable development goals by bridging siloes in climate and health. Read the report to learn more about the concrete steps we can take to adapt to the health impacts of climate change, strengthen the resilience of healthcare systems and protect lives by facilitating rapid, flexible funding for locally led health adaptation 👇 #UNGA79 #ClimateFinance #FromRiskToResilience

Aligning with the UN’s Global Goals on Climate Action & Health Equity, The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) align perfectly with C2REST’s mission. As we explore climate change’s impact on respiratory health, our research is contributing to the global effort to achieve SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). By focusing on health equity, we aim to build a future where climate resilience and health go hand in hand. On UN Day, we celebrate international cooperation in addressing climate change and health. C²REST exemplifies this spirit, bringing together researchers, communities, and policymakers. #UNDay #GlobalHealth

The Agenda for Action presents eight key actions by 2030 that place people at the centre of climate action. Action #4: Amplify women's agency. Extreme weather and climate impacts increase the health safety risks for women, and human mobility can magnify existing inequalities between women and men. It is crucial to empower women with climate information, adaptive skills and social and legal protections to bolster their agency in decisions on climate adaptation and in climate mobility.
