"too expensive" "found a better alternative" "doesn't know how to use the product" But then I'd ask, "So do you have 5 personalized paths to a cancellation?" ↳ If it's too expensive, did you try offering a discount? ↳ If they found a better alternative, did you find out which one? ↳ If they didn't know how to use it, did you offer customer support? 9 out of 10 would answer NO. In fact, everyone goes through the same cancellation. The bad news is they're likely losing potential saves. The good news is they have room to save clients. 3 metrics businesses IGNORE (but shouldn't!) There are so many metrics to monitor that it can get pretty overwhelming for subscription businesses to keep track of them all. If you want to skim beyond the surface, here are 3 metrics that you should be watching closely. 1. MRR Velocity: Forget flat MRR growth that tracks absolute change. Track MRR velocity (rate of MRR change) to identify periods of rapid growth or concerning slowdowns. This can help you predict future revenue and course-correct before it's too late. 2. CAC Payback Period: Knowing CAC is good, but how long does it take to recoup that cost from a subscriber? Track the CAC payback period to ensure you acquire customers efficiently and not burn through cash. 3. Churn by Cohort: Churn happens, but not all churn is equal. Analyze churn by subscriber cohort (e.g., by acquisition channel, signup date, etc.) to pinpoint specific areas for improvement.
