[🌐💡 SEMINAR SERIES: Dr. Mohamed Maghenem] The UM6P College of Computing was pleased to host an engaging seminar on "Distributed Gradient-Descent Estimation in Discrete Time," featuring Dr. Mohamed MAGHENEM from Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), Grenoble, France. Dr. Maghenem explored the complexities of estimating constant unknown parameters in linear input/output relationships in discrete time. His innovative method employs a network of gradient-descent estimators, which exchange their estimates through a directed-graph topology. This approach aims to overcome poor local data and ensure accurate parameter recovery, validated by a Lyapunov-based analysis. Through theoretical insights and numerical simulations, Dr. Maghenem's seminar provided a thorough understanding of this advanced method and its practical implications. We extend our gratitude to Dr. Mohamed Maghenem for an enriching seminar and for contributing to the academic advancement at our College. #SeminarSeries #UM6PCollegeOfComputing #GradientDescent #ControlSystems #Research #Academics #Morocco #UM6P UM6P - Mohammed VI Polytechnic University

Happy to share that our paper is published in the research journal "Policy Futures in Education". I received valuable help in the article writing process from Jyrki Savolainen and Mikael Collan. 🙏 In the original study, I applied system dynamics modeling and Monte Carlo simulation to show how data-driven models can enhance policy analysis, particularly in the Finnish university funding scheme in this case. Great method when making scenario analysis and/or future predictions of systems dealing non-linearities and uncertainty. Encouraging to get familiar with system theory in general, helps better seeing (at least some of) the feedback loops around everything. 😉 Looking forward applying the methods in future work. ** Ei-akateemisella kielellä: innostava ja cool juttu, hommat jatkuu. 👏 #systemdynamics #MCMCmodeling #montecarlosimulation #sagejournals

Grateful for the opportunity to present at Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Conference on Mathematical Aspects of Materials Science (#MS24) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA , a few weeks ago! ✨ "Materials are just like people. It's the defects that make them interesting..." - Julia Greer. It was an enriching experience sharing my research on "Calibrating Complex Material Models: A Comparative Analysis of Hybrid Approaches" with such an engaged audience. The discussions were truly insightful. 🌐🔬 Special thanks to the organizers and my funding sources for this opportunity and to the photographers for capturing the moments. Looking forward to future collaborations and continued learning in this field! 🙏 🔍 You can find the slides here: https://lnkd.in/dBeemueg This project has received funding from the European Commission under the European Union’s Horizon Research and Innovation programme (Grant Agreement No. 101091912). Here's a #FlashbackFriday photo from a past RSI. CEE's RSI is an intensive, six-week program that combines on-campus course work in scientific theory with off-campus work in science and technology research. Students conduct original, innovative research in state-of-the-art university laboratories, hospitals, and corporate research facilities under the mentorship of leading scientists, engineers, and researchers in the students’ respective areas of interest. In their final week, students demonstrate their research work through written academic papers and oral presentations to their peers and a panel of judges. In addition to their individualized research, the students—dubbed “Rickoids” after the late Admiral H.G. Rickover, father of the Nuclear Navy and founder of the Center with Joann P. DiGennaro—also study pure and applied mathematics, physical and biological science, economics, and humanities. RSI is offered cost-free to all students competitively selected to attend. Students are selected by a committee of professional educators and RSI alumni based on high school records, personal essays, standardized test scores, teacher recommendations, research experience, potential for leadership, and honors and awards in math and science.
