"What was the best part of your day?"
That's a question that my wife and I ask our kids every night at dinner.
With both us working, and technology keeping us connected to work almost 24/7 (pro's and con's, obviously), we decided that having dinner, at the table, as a family was going to be a non-negotiable.
Yes, there are one-offs where it might be after a dance practice, or a special Friday-night-movie-night, where the kids can eat in front of the TV. But we always ask that question: "What was the best part of your day?"
There are no right or wrong answers.
It can be as simple as, "having dinner as a family" or "getting to pick you kids up from school".
Most of the time my kids use it as an opportunity to just recap their entire day 😂, but sometimes they surprise me with an answer.
Like when my 2-year old told me the best part of her day was when I woke her up early to paint her nails. Or when my 4-year old said her's was when we took an extra couple of minutes to drive down the beach, with the windows down listening to Teddy Swims after her dance practice. (PS, my kids have awesome taste in music!)
So what was the best part of my day yesterday?
Hands down, pulling up to the house after sitting in traffic and seeing them playing in their "pool" (obviously, I know it is just a sled filled with water, but don't ruin the kids imagination) ! Having them yell "Daddy!" when I got out of the truck and running up to give me a big, wet hug wiped all of the stress of traffic, work, goals, prospecting, and whatever other stuff I had waying on my mind.
So after they got out of their wet clothes, we asked the same question we ask every night, and I think you have a pretty good idea of what their answers were 😂
So I'll ask you, what was the best part of your day?
